Human rights issues, pollution, censorship, etc...the IOC has ulterior motives going into China. The 2008 Summer Olympics should have gone to the 2nd place city.

...not that I would want the summer olympics here, just pointing it out.

I kind of feel the same way, but as well as most people who complain, few will actually protest.  I'll probably watch something else.

i agree with most; except for Canada and the Olympics.  Maybe winter Olympics; maybe.  that being said, I usually watch most of the competitions just because.  But i'll be paying more attention to basketball and the track and field events.

Since 2005, China spent 31.8 billion dollars on environmental protection. Their main focused was in Beijing so the air quality is much much better.

Prior to July 20, 2008 China had several days that were double the amount of pollution that China considered as a benchmark to be at.  It is important to note, that this benchmark was still higher than the amount the World Health Organization deems as safe.

I couldn't care less about the environment tbh, it's the fact that the Chinese government can get away with blocking Amnesty International's website.. along with many others.

I put this in Randomocity but then remembered this thread.  Chinese government is pretty much making everyone talk about there practices then the olympics

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,398486,00.html  yes the olympians wore masks for a political statement rather than for health reasons

and are banning olympians from getting a visa!  http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Chi?urn=oly,98718

Soon who knows maybe we wont get any coverage of the games because it'll interfere with there locked internet and everyone will get banned from the games for doing somthing China might take as a polictical statement.

I have a feeling something bad is going to happen at the Olympics...and I dunno what..

Anyone here an espn.com junkie?

If you are, are you as worried as I am that espn is gonna ruin the Olympics for you b/c of the time difference and their need to post everything the very second it happens on the front page.  I believe NBC is showing all of their coverage during normal hours (which will mean most of the time the events won't be live) but espn is covering them live on their website.  So far they have already ruined both of the men and women's USA soccer team games for me by letting me know the score on the front page before I can watch them on TV (unless I want to wake up in the middle of the night).

I wish they would have a olympics tabe or a spoilers tab so they don't ruin the olympics for me, b/c I constantly check espn.com and it's kinda hard to miss stuff on the front page.

Is it just me or was China's national anthem conveniently muted? Our cable went out for a second and then there was NO sound until the commercial break. Bulls**t man, bulls**t.

I find it sad that China would actually take water away from their farmers to use in fountains and other water displays, leaving the crops to dry up and die.  And they do this when there is a water shortage already.

Add that to the serious pollution problem, weird green algae growing along the sailing routes and human rights problem, one could say they really weren't ready for the Olympics to be held in that location.
