It isn't to due with the actual network, but the biggest problem I have with Sony's online service is that people with mics is a rarity.  I was playing a custom game of Halo two nights ago and half way through the game my friends headset broke (it had been broken for a while, finally lost functionality). It is so BORING playing with your friends if they don't have mics..I really don't see the point.

This also means that I would have to first convince my friends to buy PS3's, and then convince them to go buy decent a decent mic.

As long as I get to play online with PSN, it's all good.

The lack of mics can get annoying(i cant talk to wooly ) you'd also get a lot more annoying people but really its no biggie because talking to friends is worth it.

But i guess thats the thing. Sure you pay for xbl, but hey you might have to pay for a mic for psn nah just kiddin, just get warhawk or get the pseye with eye of judgment or something.

PSN won't be as good as LIVE until the PS4 arrives. Everything is integrated on live through the guide and is built right into the hardware. That is how it came from day one.

Sure Sony can keep adding things through patches but it won't be the same. The main thing is that you can play online through both services.

Sony is a hardware company and MS is a software company so of course there are going to be differences. Not to mention MS has been working on LIVE ever since the original Xbox. So with so many more years put into it it is logical to expect more.

PSN is a fine service. For no cost at all,you get a store with a decent selection of videos along with game demos for the PSP,PS3,and PSN,free themes and wallpapers, game trailers, and some PS Eye games. There is voice support during games and you can choose to use any bluetooth or USB headsets,in game XMB,Friends list that goes up to 100,and a huge library of online titles including Warhawk,Motorstorm, and Metal Gear Solid 4 proves that for no cost at all,PSN is a good deal.

Its not the "best" but at least its better than WiiWare/Mii.

It depends what you play though. They come in handy in games like GRAW 2. Even if i don't know the people many are still willing to actually work together as the game is more teamwork orientated.

Plus, everyone who I hear speaking over a mic just talks sh*t; I almost never use my blue tooth headset.  Most of my friends know my tendencies in games anyway, and vice versa.  When I play MGO, i never use it.  I use the same 3 or 4 in game texts and thats it; you can get a feel for what is happening and what everyone is doing if you just pay attention to the game.  I turn on my headset every once and a while, but usually it leads to just fooling around and talking crap and distracts me from the game.

Well.. I haven't experienced XBL so I can't comment on it...  I could troll, but I can't comment on it..    :)

I'm not that demanding of my online gaming, I just need a good connection, a fun game, no lag and one or two friends when they are available...

I gotta say though that warhawk for example has a crappy online system when it comes to playing with some friends...  You have to look in the in-game buddie list, find someone playing and join him.  You can't invite....  Now it's a bit easier thanks to in-game xmb.

I'm more than happy with PSN though, because it fills my needs and it's free.  It could be more neat, but I can't complain.  I guess it's up to the developers.

COD4 is a good example of how it should be.

I had to mute so many people yesterday because all they did was talk about their personal lives. "HEY BRO WHEN YOU COMIN' OVER?" "YO DUDE LAK RIGHT NOW HAHA!"

It really depends on the person i guess. I used to use xbl alot to talk with friends in college, and i talk with friends on psn outside of gaming and in. Not being able to talk to my friends while playng just seems to take part of the fun away. I'm not like a crazy online person as in one who would only play a game if its online(i love single player games as well) but it seems a big part of online play is interacting with friends.

I don't really understand what the problem is with home. It is meant as a social networking
place where individuals can discuss everything they want ranging from tactics in Warhawk or clan
news in MGO. It supports text and VOIP and is designed to make access easy and secure. You can also navigate
through the various lobbies through shortcuts. Everything in Home is meant to be streamlined and easy. Perhaps that's
why it has been delayed so often, because they are trying to make it as accessible as possible and easy to navigate.

They may have to do some fine tuning.
Free online multiplayer is better. It's ethics and nothing else.

I had a mic, but I stopped using it. Everyone I've ever heard talking during an online game has been a complete waste of flesh. People do nothing but **** talk online. Calling each other n*ggers and f*gs and ****. It really gives you a clear picture of what society is like underneath the BS fronts people put up and it's quite sickening. I can only imagine what XBL is like where everyone has a mic.

You sound like you hate that crap as much as I do. If so, you wouldn't have a nice time playing on Live. Sure, you can always mute them, but that's like going to a club that plays crap music, and wearing earplugs.

MGO needs to learn a thing or two from Halo 3.

I only hear my friends through my headset, I changed the settings so that people I don't know play through my TV's speakers.

From the Halo 3 Career Stats thread it is obvious I have played a lot of Halo 3, and a lot of Xbox Live. I run into the occasional 'sh*t talker', but I find this rare. And when I do, I use the Halo 3 A-hole button which takes about half a second and that's it.

I know we have different perspectives, but I pity you for having to use text messages while talking to friends in-game.

wooly and polluted thats why you play with people in your friends list. You always have a fun time with friends and dont hear the random people talking crap. The racist are pretty rare on xbox live they usually are found on cod 4 though.

Yeah alot of people sicken me like that. Usually though if you have a big enough friendslist you can mostly just play with friends and people you've met on xbl or psn. When i played graw2 on the 360 a while back i always played with a certain group of people and they were mature(even a mature 14 year old on xbl! no offense to younger teens on this site).

But yeah i do remember gonig into matches with a few friends and gonig against random people and hearing crap though on GRAW it seems alot more mature than say people in cod4 lol.

why pity me; I choose to use the text messages as opposed to talking.  It's preference.  For someone who always cries about being entitled to your opinion and what you think, you like to take shots at other's opinions and preferences.  I can mute people, and i can listen to certain people.  But i prefer not bothering.  I like the message system because like i said, i only use 3 or 4, and it's done by pressing two buttons (they are preset).  You may be lucky; but my experiences on PSN and from what I hear from every other person, is that XBL suffers from the same annoying people talking crap.  Bottom line, is that i prefer to play without having people talking crap.  People tend to get caught up in conversation or just talk crap.  It gets annoying, and is distracting.  The connections work just fine; using blue tooth headsets sounds better than talking on a cell phone.  But i prefer not using it; all my friends have some sort of headset.  But none of us really bother using it; whether we're playing with strangers, or together.

Either way, this isn't a feature special to any.  Both give you the option to talk, so this shouldn't be a consideration.
