Great Britain as i have said consists of competitors from england, wales, northern ireland, and scotland. Ireland on the otherhand (the republic of ireland) is a different country to northern ireland and competes, obviously as a different nation. The Republic of Ireland is not in the UK, or Great Britain. So you would have seen a kayak(er?) from Ireland.
