ORIGINAL: SmokeyMcBear uhhh arent the air force's security forces basically like cops on the air base? Do you guys actually go out on the front lines and patrol, or is your duties relegated to the air force base you are on. Basically, you will only see action if the base gets attacked? Not sure, just asking. For the most part, that's what we do. The field is split between Law Enforcement duties and Security related duties... it depends on the base. In wartime, SF personnel are sent to the AF bases located in the combat zones to provide security for the Air Base as one of our primary missions is ABGD (Air Base Ground Defense), which includes base personnel and aircraft there. However, in the Iraq War, AFSF personnel have been performing "In lieu of" jobs for the Marines and Army as they are stretched thin. Our duties in Iraq include convoy operations, patrol, prison guard duty, and even EOD. SF also have the option of training into a K9 unit, or participating in the Phoenix Raven program to become AF Counter Snipers. @ god of time: Yeah, you're right. Security Guards dont get the respect they deserve. Neither do firefighters or police officers. It's a sad shame, but this country is filled with anti-military people too.
