Well I had just watched three movies: The Machine Girl, Diary of the Dead, and The Signal. The Machine Girl is a really fun over the top gore movie. It is about a schoolgirl,Omi, who vows to get revenge on the bullies responsible for the murder of her brother. This movie is like Kill Bill except that it doesnt change its style towards the end. It knows what kind of movie it is and sticks to it. I love this movie and the excessive violence (its so exaggerated it is hard to take it seriously) reminds me of Takashi Miike movies. I love this move and I would suggest this movie to gore hounds and fans of movies like Bad Taste and Dead Alive. Diary of the Dead was a total letdown for me considering the fact it was directed by the originator of the zombie movies George Romero. This movie was supposed to be a reboot of the series (which started with Night of the Living Dead) but failed on many accounts. It is about a group of college students that, while in the process of making a movie, discover the dead are coming back to life. They decide to record the whole event as a documentary as an "education tool" for the masses. What I hated about the movie is that it suffers from a few (glaring) flaws. Romero's Night of the Living Dead Series were great horror movies that contained social commentary and Diary of the Dead is no exception. The problem is that in his other movies the commentary is more subtle, thus it doesnt bring down the experience of the movie. Here it is so heavy-handed that it ruined the movie for me. Another problem is the whole document angle of the movie. Hearing the constant voice overs and explaination got on my nerves a bit. Also since the movie is made as a documentary, alot of the cinematic flair of Romero's older movies is lost. One last (and main gripe) is with the main character shooting the documentary. As with most movies, suspension of disbelief is required but the guy is basically more concerned with shooting the documentary than trying to help or console his friends. One of your firends is being chased by a zombie and you just continue to look and shoot your movie? Put the camera down and help her!! Finally the last movie I watched was The Signal. This is another great horror movie about 3 people and how their lives are changed when people start turning into murderous psychopaths after strange signals start being admitted through the television. This movie may sound similar to 28 Days/Weeks Later but I assure it is three times as better than those movies! Here is a trailer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6xJgvhxixeg&feature=related
