I was plotting out parts to build a new computer with and BAM! This little beauty comes along. Only need to wait about 3 weeks and then I'll know the complete pricing on the card. If not I can easily wait and watch the current 9800s drop in price some more.

Anyone else interested in the new 9800 or has experience with the cheaper and slightly less powerful ATI 4850 HD?

Why not get the ATI 4850 or 4870?

They are cheaper and more powerful than the card your getting if I'm correct.

According to the recent avalanche of benchmarks the 4850 is cheaper but the 9800GTX+ is more powerful we also have to take in consideration other factors like how in some games tested the 4850 gave a slightly more performance than the 9800GTX+ in others they were the same but still in the majority the 9800GTX+ had the edge (in some small in others bigger) and the finally thing to take into consideration is that NVIDIA wants to match the 4850 price (some manufactures might make it even cheaper) when it launches so that can make the 4850 original price advantage go away and lets not forget driver updates since NVIDIA already promised that performance enhancing drivers were on its way

I think the closer we get to launch and if NVIDIA delivers with the promised updated drivers you can make a complete decision between both of them also an interesting things is that if the 9800GTX+ drops in prices the normal 9800GTX would have to do so becoming dirty cheap and that might result in an even better buck for performance than the one people were looking at ATI for

The 9800 series and Nvidia has some other things going for it as well. As Charlie stated, the 9800 GTX tends to nudge out the 4850. The build of the cards is also different (ATI just has brute force stream processors where Nvidia has shaders), and I'm a little more trusting of the SLi. I haven't had an ATi Card since the Radeon 9600.

Nvidia also has Hybrid Sli with the motherboard I plan on putting it into (ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe.) so with the 9800+ using less power and it being shut off when not used, that should keep power costs down.

The 4850 is 200 now and many 9800s are coming down to the $200 price. I'm curious to see what BFG is going to do / over clock the 9800+.

I would wait for a 9800 GX2+ if there such a thing. I also do not like ATI cards, their drivers have a long history of sucking ass.

I'm not 100& sure on this but I think the ATi 4870 is faster and uses less power than the 9800GTX and is roughtly the same price too.

ATI's drivers have gotten alot better over the pass few years. The 4850 or 4870 are the best cards to get this year for your PC, they give you a great amount of power about 90% of the power that the Nvidia 260/280 cards give you and for about £200 cheaper.

Well I am looking at the 9800+ and vs a 4850 it does have an edge. Over clocking seems to get a better result than what the 4850 can put out. Power isn't so much an issue given that the Hybrid SLi will be shutting the card down when not in use.
