does anyone have problems running their ps3 off of wifi?  I run mine directly from my modem but my friend is having some hardcore connectivity issues running his wireless.  he uses a mac router and says there is always a flashing green light right beside the yellow HDD indicator light.  Now i dont run my wireless so i dont know what to tell him but the vast amt of knowledge you people have surely could help!!!

thanks,
PharmD

The flashing green light will always be that way since that's the wireless indicator, also it'll stay on if the system is off if you have the advanced remote play features set. Is it failing to connect or something?

Yeah man that green light lighting up is normal. Its the wireless indicator like skerj said. Is it a problem only with his PS3? Does anything else ( laptop,PSP,..etc) work on his wifi? Is the main computer connecting OK? Figure these out to narrow it down. I'll assume the main computer is connecting fine. I would guess that its a router issue. He should test his wifi on something else and see if that device has connection problems. If nothing else tell him to wire his PS3. I prefer wired myself. That may not be possible with him I don't know. Tell him to restart his modem ( restart NOT reset ) and his router. I hope he figures it out.

(edit) So his laptop works fine online? It must be his PS3. Maybe its the settings. Tell him to go through and scan and setup his connection on his PS3 again. Maybe that will fix it. What does his PS3 say the signal strength is?

yeah man, like i said, his laptop runs fine, no glitches/lags whatsoever..... i do understand that this could be from not having to carry as much info as playing COD4 online... but those are the only two things he runs off it so i really dont know... he doesnt have enough cable to run a direct line to his ps3 as of yet so im not sure what the gameplan is

ps. and thank you too..... thats a good ? about what his ps3 says, i only know while playin COD4 it goes from very low to minimal, yet he has the same internet as me... comcast 8Mgs/second

I sorta had this kind of problem, tell your friend to use the "easy" wireless connection so the PS3 figures out everything on itself.

Thats perfectly Normal, many routers blocks PS3 ports.
All he have to do is find a way to figure out how to make PS3 DMZ on the router,or should search the web for
configuration that fits his PS3 ports,
I had the same problem and I found a solution here
http://maikelv.be/blog/2007/10/27/ps3-and-linksys-wrt54g-the-solution-2/#more-9
but i use a linksys router, but maybe this post would give u a better idea on ur friend's problem

cheers
