IF you couldn't find it at first try it looks like you might have one of the old power supplies and you might have to upgrade but just in case you have doubts here is a pic of the 6pin

that is how a 6pin for the modern card look like, forget the extra 2 on top since those are optional

here is another pic, to the left is the classic connectors the old power supplies used in general to the right is the connector the modern power supplies have also

im not looking for a top of the line card for gaming purposes. id get that if i were, im looking for a pretty good card that'll run my 3d applications cuz im majoring in game design and 3d modeling. if i can get a good job ill prolly invest in something ALOT better, but for now i dont need it.

well its pretty much now obligatory to get a new power supply, since the majority of the new power supplies have old and new connectors they are kind of back wards compatible so in theory your old mobo should work just fine with a new power supply, but the question is if you want a GeForce 9000 card do you know if your mobo even supports it? cuz the majority of the somewhat "new" mobos used for the new cards require the new connectors of the new power supplys and if you only hand a old one it brings doubts...do you know what exact mobo do you have?

if your mobo is this one exactly

http://www.dooyoo.es/placas-madre/xfx-nforce-630i-geforce-7100/details/

it looks like you might not need to replace it and only replace the power supply

yea thats the one. so i guess ill just have to buy the psu then. saves me a bunch of trouble thanks. so the psu is supposed to come packaged with the proper cables i can hook up to the mobo or do i need to buy separate cables. cuz everything else in my pc uses the old 4 pins and if the new psu only has 6 pin cables im fcked

well pretty much 95% of the PSU have the cables, the things you need to take into consideration when getting the PSU is the power you need (wts) and the connectors you need specially if you have various HDD so look into your PC and see what needs what cables to cross match that with a possible new PSU that also has the new kind of connectors

the card spec says i need at least 400 wts and im only running one hard drive and a dvd drive that both run off what looks like 4pin cables connect to SATA cables, unless there are other black cables like those

well for now i can only spend about $200 and no its not custom but i replaced the cpu and added more ram. i am planning to make one prolly next year or something once i move.

if you have around 350 (150 for card 200 for PSU) I would recommend getting one of the 100 bucks PSU which are good (get a OCZ brand of at least 600wts so it can last you for future upgrades) and using the extra 100 to get a better video card like one of the 9800 ones
