Back in my day having a colour pallette consisting of 7 colours was jaw dropping:

8 actually including the black.

Technically black is the absence of colour hence it isn't a colour. :) White on the other hand can consist of all the colours of a spectrum (see what I did there :) so can be described as a colour. So i'll give you 8 with white instead of black. :D
