Seriously though, if by MGS5 you mean MGSV (Phantom Pain) then yeah... They are the same game. I doubt Kojima is working on two MGS games at the same time.

This year I'm anticipating LToU, GOWA, Beyond, GTA5 and MGSWhatever.

Oh I forgot to mention that I'm also sort of looking forward to the new Amnesia game, Machine for Pigs. I've been rather into horror titles recently.

I've read that and I still think it's all the same game. Kojima is always doing crap like this and Ground Zeroes, if by any chance is a prologue, can also be a prologue IN the same game, as a chapter.

You'll see that Ground Zeroes and Phantom pain are both part of the same game which is MGSV or 5. They are not two different games.

"Considered" to be a prologue, not that it actually is or definitely will be a prologue. Kojima says a lot of things to hype up his games and future releases. Chances are that Ground Zeroes might actually be MGS5 for all we know. Perhaps Ground Zeroes will be like the Virtuous Mission and the rest of the game will be MGS5 or something, hard to know at this point but nothing's confirmed.

There's others like FFVersusXIII, The Last Guardian, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and the likes but those are extremely unlikely to release this year.

Hmmm, i dunno if i should get Ni No Kuni. I haven't played a JRPG in ages :/

I know there's a demo out, has anyone got any impressions of it? The combat system looks a little dull.

I was looking forward to Aliens: Colonial Maries, but changing the Alien to 3rd person for multiplayer is stupid and the recent story trailer was disappointing. Might still get it though.

The old Metal Gear games aren't part of the "Metal Gear Solid" storyline i think. That's why they're just called "Metal Gear."

I will probably get GTA5 but I'm not really looking forward to it much. As for your Metal Gear comment, Metal Gear 1 and 2 are canon and part of the same storyline, they simply predate the Solid games in terms of actual dates of release. In terms of canonical chronology, everything is cluttered.

Those are not canon (the NES remake of MG1 and Snake's Revenge). The MSX games I've included in the chronology above, however.

As in the post above me, MG1 and MG2 are probably the games you are thinking of. These are MSX titles, the former was ported and altered on the NES and the latter was never on anything but the MSX and only released in Japan. You can play both of these titles if you buy MGS3: Subsistence or the MGS HD collection though.

Don't think so, as with most franchises they lose common sense with the naming convention once they release about 4-5 titles. This video sums up random naming quite nicely:

In MGS terms, you get MGS3 which sees you using Big Boss many years ago, then you get 4 which returns you to present timeline...then you get Peace Walker (note the absense of a chronological number). Now theres two more games (MGR and MGS:GZ) enroute, let the confusion begin.

It seems that after MGS3, the first prequel, Kojima abandoned the numbered titles for any other Big Boss game. That would have been an alright thing to do if MGS3 wasn't MGS3, because the chronological ordering is extremely cluttered by MGS3 alone.

For anyone curious, it is:

MGS3 -> Portable Ops -> Peace Walker -> Ground Zeroes -> Metal Gear -> Metal Gear 2 -> Metal Gear Solid -> MGS2 -> MGS4

If you want to include Revengeance that'd be the chronologically latest title in the series, and I don't believe a timeline for MGS5 has been given although based on what I've read from interviews with Kojima, it seems like it will take place just after GZ. Come to think of it, that will further clutter the chronological ordering...well, I guess that stopped mattering after MGS3 anyway.

No, MGS5 is due sometime after Ground Zeroes - likely on next generation hardware (whereas GZ will be on PS3, 360 and possibly PC).
