Lost amidst a sea of other high-profile titles, Evolution Studios' sequel to the PS3's first great racing game had the limelight stolen from it by other titles like &lt;a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/11/resistance-2-gives-ps3-devs-a-blueprint-for-online-play.ars" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"&gt;&lt;i&gt;Resistance 2&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/10/littlebigplanet-great-game-with-religion-and-server-issues.ars" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"&gt;&lt;i&gt;LittleBigPlanet&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt;. Now might be a good time go give the game a go, though, as Sony has announced that the game's first big post-release patch is on the way.   &lt;br&gt;  In addition to removing some of the saved data restrictions that prevented users from backing up save files, the game's update focuses on patching up some exploits, polishing the game's ranking system, and tightening up the gameplay. Evolution Studios has listened intently to the community and implemented a number of the fixes suggested by the fans. The abridged patch notes can be found &lt;a href="http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/01/26/motorstorm-pacific-rift-game-update-just-around-the-corner/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"&gt;over at the official PlayStation blog&lt;/a&gt;.   &lt;br&gt;  &lt;a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/reviews/2007/03/motorstorm.ars" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"&gt;The original &lt;i&gt;MotorStorm&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt; was one of the best early titles the PS3 had to offer, and &lt;i&gt;Pacific Rift&lt;/i&gt;  fixed some of the original game's flaws. The developers have been working hard to match Criterion in its DLC efforts with &lt;a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/08/burnout-bikes-pack-detailed-trophies-incoming.ars" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"&gt;&lt;i&gt;Burnout Paradise&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/a&gt;, so &lt;a href="http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2008/10/motorstorm-pacific-rift-to-get-free-dlc.ars" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"&gt;weekly updates and free DLC&lt;/a&gt; are always on the horizon with &lt;i&gt;Pacific Rift&lt;/i&gt; as well. This is how developers should be supporting their games post-launch.   &lt;br&gt;  &lt;hr&gt;  &lt;br&gt;  Details of the first update:  &lt;br&gt;  &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Restrictions to the copying of Saved Data have been removed.&lt;/b&gt;     This will make it possible for Saved Data to be backed up and then     restored to the User Account it was created under (whether that’s on     the same PLAYSTATION 3 or not).*&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Changes to the way the game handles data.&lt;/b&gt; These changes will help to prevent Saved Data corruption.&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Visual notification of critical save progress has been added.&lt;/b&gt;     A ‘MotorStorm Helmet’ icon will be displayed on-screen to warn users     that critical data is being saved. Think about it; when YOU get crushed by a monster truck, you inevitably respawn behind them.
