WiiU seems to be this gen - Sunday, July 29, 2012 8:28 AM ( #1 )
To sum it up, its all in the picture!

[picture removed by mod due to language]

The Wii launched in 2006 basically was a supercharged/overclocked Gamecube which Nintendo sold at a premium.

Now they match the currrent gen hardware with WiiU, and try to do the trick again of giving a gimmick control, like Wiimote was, but this time with a pretty bulky one touch (no multitoch) stylus like supersized 3DS screen.

The Wiimote was so inaccurate, then they let people pay for the Plus addon to fix it. I still can't believe how Nintendo fanboys still believe that the WiiU will be 3 to 6 x as powerful as a PS3/360, knowing the ways of Nintendo (also their underpowered 3DS, compare it to the PSVitas hardware) and on top of that even believe the retail price will be as low as 299 bucks.

How is it possible to buy a 3 x to 6 x as powerful console as the 360/PS3, with a pretty pricy tablet controller for 299 bucks? I'll tell you, its NOT possible. If the PS3 sells for around 250 bucks, you can't get anything 3 x to 6 x as powerful with an expensive controller for just 50 bucks more.

The last and not the least factor. How can a console be named next gen, if the drive used will still be DVD? Even the next XBOX will have a BluRay in it.

I call the WiiU current gen. Its also the reason why they just took the Wii name and added a U, the U from Upgrade, not next gen.

Is that 3-5 hour controller battery for real? Wow.

Day 1 buy for me.

I don't give a sh*t about graphics. That tablet controller is the best thing to happen to gaming since dual-analog sticks.

Suck it MS and Sony!

Yup its true. Even worse, it takes 2.5 hours to charge already, then play for 3 to 5 hours. Thats what you get for Nintendo wanting to sell their hardware by introducing a gimmick controller tablet again.

Its the same trick as the Wiimote. It looks cool and new, until one plays it and actually found out that it was just a marketing trick to sell you the hardware. Nintendo laughed so hard, all those millions of overclocked Gamecubes sold on a Wiimote and earned them so much per unit sold. If they'd made the Mote for the Gamecube, the games would have looked about the same. But that wouldn't have earned them so much money.

I sure hope this is just you being sarcastic right? Its a one touch last gen piece of hardware. You can use a stylus though lol. Every tablet, smartphone or even a good handheld like the PSVita has multitouch. And you're fine with one touch for such a large tablet controller? Yes, this gotta be some kind of trolling from a PS3/360 fan...

There are even some Wiiboy fandrones that make up hardware specs, even price them imaginary and make it seem that its reality.

Nintendo hasn't even given out any specs, nor hardware used, or anything. You gotta love the immense wet dream wishes that die hard Nintendo fanboys have....

Innovation doesn't always have to come in the form of higher resolution, shaders, and graphic engine buzzwords.

Nintendo has been making me smile since I got a NES and The Legend of Zelda in 1986. The SNES means more to me than anything XBox or Playstation ever will. They have released genre defining (and often genre creating) games in every generation, such as Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Super Mario Galaxy, and tons more.

I have little doubt that the Wii U will be a success.

If innovation doesn't have to come in the form of higher resolutions, why not just stick with the Wii and bring a tablet controller for that?

I agree to you on a certain point, SNES was great. Heck even N64 was bomb. And yes, Mario, Zelda and some other IP's are win. But those are the same old games we know for decades. Last gen, the Wii hardly brought brand new exclusive IP's. A lot of rehash. WiiU again starts with recycling Wii games. Even worse, they just take for example New Super Mario Bros, and paste the U from Upgrade at the end. It practically looks, play and feel the same. Sure, some tablet action integrated but come on. We saw like one or two games that had to define the WiiU at E3. ZombieU which was alright, but not even mind blowing.

After N64, Nintendo just started to disappoint and it seems they copied the DS underpowered ways into the home consoles since some time. Just sell old hardware with some gimmick added and rehash the old IP's over and over.

I can't believe people are falling again for the Wii-U, I really expected at least some autocriticism from Nintendo fanboys, but this is too much....

There were SOME good games for the wii, but the overall list of games is clearly, vastly, objectively subpar to what PS360 offered this generation.
Funny thing, is Wii users usually still call videogames "the mario" or "nintendos", is this just a proof of the hurdur level in this world?, you are exactly the kind of people who describe themselves as avid readers yet you've only read "Da Vinci's code" and "The pillars of the earth"- You're the kind of people buying Apple just because. You're the sick tide of obliviousness and ignorance destroying the industry.

Know this, 7th generation Nintendo fanboys: The best use a Wii can have is to be rooted and filled with emulators since is a sub 20w piece of crap sold at a premium price.

I hate Nintendo, excepto for the SNES.

I do not care, if I have the money I will be buying a Wii U day 1. Nintendo no matter what always holds a special place in gaming. Nintendo to me has always provided fantastic memorable games with their systems. It seems to me Nintendo has really learned a lot and is really going the right way with the Wii U cannot wait to get this.

If it weren't for the jump in hardware specs the PS3/360 made from last gen, we wouldn't have gotten games like:

Uncharted, Gears of War, LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Red Dead Redemption (the dynamic weather system, the dynamic day/night cycle, try that on the Wii...), Bioshock, Assassins Creed etc etc all couldn't have been done on the same old same old hardware.

Sure, PC's upgrade every day. But for consoles its important to have major upgrades every console cycle, as it brings new kind of levels in the way games play, period.

As much as I am dying for next gen, I am just not excited abut the Wii U. Nintendo has been going downhill for a while in my eyes. They need to go the route of Sega and just be a software company.

GameCube will probably be the last Nintendo console I own, and I didn't even like that one. Nintendo has been consistently moving downhill since the N64.

You're of course entitled to your opinion and goes without saying, we all have to respect  personal preferences.

But I really, really think Nintendo holds a special place in your heart, not so in gaming, which is outside it.
Proof of this is your arguably blind loyalty saying you'll get it day 1 no matter what.

I'm a PS3 fanboy but I won't be getting PS4 day one, not even year 1, but hey, it's your money.
The problem with the old sarcastic saying "If politics are not your thing, others will care about that for you" is precisely in what you intend to do: most voters are blind, and the proof of it is the Wii selling like hot cakes.
