The game no one liked. The spin-offs nobody asked for.

Three  FFXIII games and still no FFvs13.  Something tells me they're just waiting for the next gen for that game and are going to keep running with FFXIII until then.

was looking at some stuff and this one actually looks really interesting but they already lost me after FFXIII. Hated that game to death. If this would have been a new game (not related to anything FFXIII) I would have given it a chance but now it's too late. Because the thing is that I love games with consistent story-lines and worlds like Metal Gear and Yakuza series (heck, even Kingdom Hearts!)  but this Lighting saga is all over the place and no matter how good the gameplay is this is something that I just can't forgive.

FF was better when the games didn't have any sequels. Another sinner was FFX-2 and directed by Toriyama too... It totally changed the feel of FFX and how it was portrayed.

MOOOODS....someone change the title to  "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII"

also new pics and info from 1up.com:http://www.1up.com/previews/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-first-looks

World:Novus Partus
Timeline:hundreds of years after Final Fantasy XIII-2
Characters:Lightning(solo).No team.
Gameplay(from IGN):The most startling change to Lightning Returns comes in the form of the doomsday countdown. According to Square-Enix, the world will end after 13 days, and a massive clock will count down constantly in the corner of the screen to indicate this looming deadline. Any action players take, even taking the monorail from place to place, will spend time and hasten the end of days.
With Lightning as the only playable character, players will have unparalleled control over customizing her looks and combat style. The battle system itself, a greatly modified version of the previous two, will feature real-time elements including direct control of Lightning's movement and her attacks, as well as time-based moves that drain the doomsday counter. Lightning Returns will also include a real-time block system, designed to make battles much more active and time-based. Even dying mid-battle will activate a prompt to give players the choice to rewind their mistakes at the expense of the timer.

Re:FFXIII Lightning Saga - Saturday, September 01, 2012 5:54 AM ( #12 )
I hope I'll be eating humble pie after TGS, but for now I need to get this off my chest. I've never known a company to sh*t on their fanbase the way Square Enix have;
I remember back to the beginning of this gen, how they made comments about not wanting to support Sony too much, but then didn't release a thing for it until FFXIII while releasing exclusives for the 360.
This was even more perplexing given that they also said they were extremely worried about piracy, yet were supporting the only console at the time that had known hacking issues, AND has a dismal install base in Japan, their most important market.
They seem to be remaking every Final Fantasy game that either doesn't deserve, or doesn't need a remake, while refusing to remake the ones that the fans are actually asking for. Okay FFIV was worth remaking, but then they went and remade it twice! They show a FF7 trailer when the PS3 was revealed, yet they apparently had no intentions of actually making the game, and give a lame arse excuse about it being too hard. FFX was great, but too soon to remake.
They reveal FF13 as a PS3 exclusive, with an engine tailored to the PS3, promising to max out the system. Then they do a last minute backflip, make it multiplat, use a revised multiplat engine, remove a buttload of content, and downgrade the graphics. I remember even Kitase was getting pissed off. I'd wager that the PS3 version was delayed just to allow a simultaneous 360 release.
They claimed to want to cater more to western audiences so they ditched a lot of what gave Final Fantasy its charm with FF13. In fact they ended up making a game that most of the western audience didn't even like. They said they wanted FF13 to flow more like an FPS, and that making it more linear would allow for a better story, but the story was terrible!
Of course what better way to redeem the failing franchise than to release a direct sequel to FF13! And now it appears there'll be yet another sequel for it, that nobody asked for. Yay!
They've abandoned their other great franchises like the Mana and Chrono series. They even prevented the glorious fan made Chrono Resurrection remake from being finished (FFFUUUU!!!), then registered the 'Chrono Break' trademark, and did nothing with it.
FF Type-0 appears to actually look like a good game. Oh what's that? You want it localised? Sorry!
FFXIV - a terrible MMO that needed major fixing. Still no PS3 release, not that anyone's clamoring for it at this point.
Now they're showing off their next gen engine, but who know's if they'll even get to release a game with it.
And then there's Versus XIII. OH GOD, VERSUS!!! Announced at the beginning of this gen, still no release date 6 years later nearing the end of this gen, years without information, gameplay trailers shown behind closed doors etc. Resources have been pulled away from this game so that FF13 and 13-2 could be released sooner. It's as if Square Enix (or specifically Wada) is purposely going out of their way to piss everyone off.
Okay I'm done, and feel much better!

I liked 13, only problem was lack of environment variety, in fact 13 had more replay value than FFXIII-2, not sure about a third instalment thu

Hey guys!

I heard you can like change Lightning's clothes in the game and also accessorise her and like the more cleavage she shows the quicker the stagger bar increases!?

I haven't even played XIII-2 yet.

Makes me laugh though for all the people STILL waiting for Versus. An entire trilogy before they get the one game they want.

Squeenix is currently run by the posh 10 y.o. daughter of a shareholder -confirmed-

Edit: Is there any reason the Red Dragon is wearing Padme Amidala's royal attire? Is this some sophisticated japanese irony? an intercrossed cultural joke between two mediums? Why!?

God like trolling from Squeenix.
Why are they doing this though? FF13-2 sold terribly compared to FF13. There are so many more interesting and unique characters in FF history to make a saga with, Lighting is a weird choice.

I think they are going further and further away from a FF game w/ this tactic.

i think they should have created a separate franchise if they wanted to expand on this universe so much. I think it would have had a better reception.

But the idea of Final Fantasy being stuck in a single 'universe' for so long is not appeasing.
Best part of FF games was, you always had a new universe to look forward to in the next game. Not more questions, not more answers, not more of the same.

I didn't realize it's now trolling when a company doesn't release what its fans want. Who knew.  But anyway, from the way things are looking, Square Enix really wants this to be their Final Fantasy.
