Should I hold out for 720?
-
Saturday, October 13, 2012 11:56 PM

I really just want some advice here. I have been saving money to buy a Star Wars version of the 360. I have sadly sold some of my valuable comics on eBay to raise some cash and I even want to spring for the 3 year warranty for the extra 50 bucks. Well I got to thinking. "Man in 3 years 720 will be well established." I now have so many questions concerning when 720 arrives. 1. How long after 720's arrival will Live on 360 be supported? 2. Will I lose all the games I have purchased from the marketplace once Live on 360 is no longer supported? 3. Is it worth it to spring for an expensive limited edition Xbox this late in the game? Sincerely, Knowblesavage

You made your first mistake selling something valuable to purchase a console. Remember, electronics prices will diminish and be worthless. Comics and such will stay invaluable. You should have kept the comics and just worked to get money for a 360 or 720.

I'd say either get a PS3/PS4 or build a computer. Microsoft has nothing left in the bag as far as games go, they gave up a long time ago. To answer your questions 1. I'd expect the 360 will be supported for at least a few years after the next xbox comes out, probably around 5 years like the original. 2. I don't think anyone has said anything about letting us take our DLC into the next gen of consoles, you'd have to look that up since I haven't heard anything. 3. Hell no.

Yea actually concerning the comics I sold. I only say I sadly sold my comics, because it's hard to part with stuff you have had so long. But nothing lasts forever. I got way more for them then I paid due to smart and dedicated collecting when I was a kid. I still have Thousands more! and as far as modern comics go you better sell them while they are hot cause sooner or later no one cares any more and things are only worth what some one is willing to pay. The only comics that keep their value are Bronze age or older with First appearances and books with low print runs. So thank you for your wondrous insight into the comics world but that wasn't the point of my original post.

Depends really what you want from the console. If you want a solid single player, get a 360. It has tons of great games, games that will keep you occupied for years to come.. and best part is these will be at bargain prices. Now as for star wars edition, only get it if u want to keep it in mint condition.. Rule of thumb is, u use it, and it's worth nothing. If you are fine w/ the the worth of the console going down, then invest in it. Otherwise get a slim 360, i hear they are cheaper and more reliable. If you want online, that's a tricky business. MS hasn't had a good trend of supporting past hardware. Thou I don't expect them to shut down Live, esp. since it rakes in money by the millions. I'd say it'd be a safe bet for ur Live account to last at least 3 year. As for DD games, I'd go w/ retail copies. You can probably get games cheaper that way anyway. I'm sorry about your comics, it's had selling something you've become attached to over such a long time.

I'm sorry about your comics, it's had selling something you've become attached to over such a long time. Thank you! I have to admit I'm not buying the star wars edition for collect-ability. I want it because its F-in cool! plus it is a good deal. you get the Kinect sensor, Starwars Kinect, Kinect Adventures, 320gb, R2-D2 feng shui, The c3p0 controller. Value wise its just a good deal. I have been on a used model with 60gb this whole time and I just wanted to go new this time and figure well if I go new I want to get the best value. for $400 its not that bad considering what you get. as far as the comics Its all good I got stuff I will never sell including every Amazing Spiderman issue from 1979-1985. I currently have listed on eBay the only copy of Streetfighter #6 power foil edition featuring AKUMA on the cover. Check it out. I also have some other great gems as well. sorry to plug here but it seemed relevant at this point lol.

I'll say this though If We can't take all the stuff we bought over the years to the next platform then I think I'm done with Xbox. I used to rule at oldschool Twisted metal and believe me I wish I was playin the current installment of that franchise. I would have no problem switching back to SONY.

Well MS will NOT let you play your 360 games on 720 judging by the trend they went w/ on 360 from Xbox. Sure Sony let you do that between PS2 and PSX. But now the PS3s also have selective compatibility -- ie the dead 60gbs/80gbs. Since Sony abandoned the 'backward compatibility' model this gen, it may not come back next gen. So either way, MS or Sony, you maybe SOL when it comes to playing your current gen games on the next piece of hardware.

If It has to be a clean slate situation then the next system I do buy better have the nicest bells and whistles!

Sony is def. going to support the PS3 well past PS4 comes out.

I guess one of the biggest issues I will have leaving xbox is that I have some really great friends on xbox. I have friends that I tear RPG's apart with. I also have friends that I tear up the Offroad, MX, SSX, ATV tracks and rule the leaderboards with. I also gave a lot of thought about weather I want to buy the first generation of the next gen consoles. God knows they will have growing pains. I'm thinking I want to get the better 360 for now and wait till all the next gens have been around for at least one year and decide what direction to go after all has been unveiled. Does this sound like a reasonable plan?

Somebody didn't notice the sarcasm here: "So *thank you for your wondrous insight* into the comics world but that wasn't the point of my original post." On special edition hardware: Hell no. Not worth it, particularly the star wars kinect. I've heard nothing but crap about that game and the systems were too mass produced to have any special value. I wouldn't trust any next gen MS system for at least 2 years of testing by others; 6 months testing with the PS4, but it'll probably come out a year later. If you want a current gen system with support after the next system arrives PS3 is the only way to go for consoles both SP and MP. A 500GB PS3 and a PS+ subscription would hold out the average gamer really well if you can stand a little of everything. If your more picky, or play through 4+ games a month: PC is usually a good option if you already have a desktop and aren't afraid of breaking legos(PC joke).

Alas, we've discovered the difference between a satisfied Xbox 360 owner and a singleplayer loving PS3 owner. I say grab a cheap Xbox now. Microsoft made all popular Xbox games compatible with the Xbox 360, and that was with a console that only sold 25 million units. M$ has nearly tripled that install base so expect even further support for previous gen games this time around. Personally, I'd stay away from Kinect and Star Wars, but whatever floats your boat!
How quick does SONY want to forget about the PS3?

Get a cheap version so you won't feel too bad once it decides to crap out on you. And I understand wanting to stay w/ your friends, a lot of my RL friends are on PS3 / Steam. So I stick w/ them, if XBL works for you, stick to it.

I'm thinking I want to get the better 360 for now and wait till all the next gens have been around for at least one year and decide what direction to go after all has been unveiled. Does this sound like a reasonable plan? Getting a 360 or PS3 is a great time people sometimes think should I wait till later don;t jump in now... If you have more friends on the 360 get that... That way when you do get a MP game you can still jump in with them or compare your games to theirs in SP stuff... That all said... LOOK AT THE GAMES... It is the GAMES that are FUN not the systems... If you can find 15 games on one system and 25 on the other... that should factor in huge... these are not Mulit-platform game but games that are more exclusive or friend heavy... If you are going to get a system now don;t get a launch system next year what not... you will have a lot of FUN games wither you go with XBOX or PS3 for a few years easy... because of back log... As for support of This generation goes... all as I can say is this... look at the history of the companies... Sony supports their systems long and hard... MS does not the change from Last Gen to this Gen MS dropped the XBOX support and no games came out... nothing... soon after LIVE was taken down... That being Said as far as being able to play from this generation on to its next generation... 360 0n 720 and PS3 on to PS4... MS very well may have backwards support... very very likely in some fashion... As for Sony NO there will be no backwards play ability.... Since they are change there architect from CELL to an X86 architect... Which will be a huge plus for sony fans... and games will all be easily ported to system to system with little to no change... Because PC will be the lead and it will be ported from there... unless it is first party... Hope this helps and welcome to the forums....
