Why did you quit gaming? - Thursday, October 18, 2012 12:21 PM ( #1 )

Growing up I played video games as much as I possibly could. It got to the point where I would refuse to even do any chores around the house because that would take time away from playing video games. As I grew older things such as education, relationships, and a career obviously took center stage. The video games industry has also changed dramatically - with development costs skyrocketing and niche games becoming far more infrequent.

Well, whatever the case may be - this thread is a place for people to rally together and try to figure out what exactly it was that made them quit gaming entirely.

C'mon you know people here don't play video games, they just pretend to in order to argue about stuff that doesn't matter.

Not enough unique/engaging experiences anymore for me... There are plenty of games now, more than ever but not much that will grab my attention and hold it. Plus with a busier lifestyle there is less and less time to play but I dont think it mattered any way since even when I do have spare time only a very few games will actually be enjoyable to play.

I didn't quit, but I don't play 10 hours a day like I used to. they've gotten too expensive for me, and my money is best spent on musical equipment, clothing, food, and gas to get to college. That and I don't have a PC good enough to run all the high end pc games :( but I can still play on my laptop, which I do.

I haven't.

Times change.  Concepts change.  People change.  But, I haven't stopped loving the games I play, whether it's a video game or a PnP RPG.  As I get older I get more skeptical, but I do my best to remain open-minded about many things in the industry so that I don't end up just pushing it all away.  After all, if I do that, I'll be the only one to lose out in the end.  Why would I want to put myself into that position?

Having a gf made me quit/move away from gaming. I just had no time or interest in games when I could go spend time with my gf.  Another reason why I quit gaming is growing up you just get to a point where you feel like a bum if you just game. You start thinking maybe you should focus on your career/education and get somewhere in life.

I haven't truly ever quit gaming once since I started back in 1983. I have had periods of less gaming. Right now gaming has become stale and the games that are coming out have been done a million times before. I always get into a gaming funk towards the end of a console generation.

Am finding some critically acclaimed games less fun. Such as *****y Skyrim. And overrated Uncharted. And Cod is ****. I don't like the way certain devs are going, S-E, Bethesda, Lucasarts in general and a few others. Bethesda are the masters of boring now, I used to love their RPGS. Now they want to make Action adventures in an open world and they suck at all the stuff that matters. They can't make either a good Rpg or Action Adventure. Should stuck to the RPG's. Bioware went down a slippery slope and payed for it *Claps to EA*. Naugthy Dog decided to make a shooter but I can live with it, at least it's good

I go through periods where I'll quit.  Right now I'm very much into gaming though.

I don't play like I used to but i haven't quit. I can't seem to enjoy mediocre games anymore though, i just find i have better things to do with my time, a borderlands or darksiders no longer interest me, i find that i can only enjoy high quality games now, which is good because i have a PS3 and all their exclusives are of the highest level.

Only an Xbot would make this thread. This is what happens when you have no games.

If you consider Borderlands and Darksiders mediocre then what do you consider "high quality"?

I'm genuinely curious.

This again? We all know that the Multi-Plats were the best games of this generation. Fallout 3 & NV, Oblivion & Skyrim, Dead Space 1-2 & 3?, Borderlands 1 & 2, The Walking Dead, Just Cause 2, GTA IV, Dead Island, Battlefield BC 1 & 2, BF3 to a lesser extent. I could go on for a long time. IMO, each of those games I listed are above and beyond any Uncharted, Gears, Halo or infamous game I ever played.

I haven't stopped playing but I don't play like I once did. After going on a career and recently getting engaged the time I have for gaming has shrunk.

However I will be honest about something else. The lack of JRPGs and rise of shooters,Kinect,Move and phone games has really pushed me out.The game industry is basically saying **** you to gamers like me who crave 40-60 hours adventures with unique characters, epic stories and gorgeous art design.

Games like Valkyria Chronicles,Tales of Graces and the Persona series have sucked out my time from under me.I'm late for work or I haven't seen humans for 3 days while not giving a ****.Having too much fun to do anything else when grinding for that rare item or fighting a boss with infinite HP.

When Persona 4 Golden comes out, expect me to dive in 40 hours.

Bah, you caught me red handed.

IMO, you knew what I meant.

@Budget, no I really believe that. Multi-plats of this gen are better games. Uncharted Series was great and all and I love the Halo SP but in the end they are just TPS and FPS games.

My only pint of contention is the above and beyond part, like comparing Half Life with Big Rig Truckers.
