Who has or will be purchasing a PS Vita? - Thursday, October 25, 2012 7:53 PM ( #1 )
Whos got one or is seriously considering buying one in the near future? Im about to get one as a gift from my girlfriend as a birthday/holiday gift. But before she makes a purchase, i want to be sure theres a fanbase out there. I dont want to have one only for it to be like the PSP did so to say. Like with the PSP, it wasnt a huge hit compared to the DS. Thus the PSP missed out on a lot of titles and the development of games plundered as the devs skipped on its development because a lack of a fanbase. Lack of PSV sales = lack of game development. I dont want to get a Vita only for it to turn out like that. My gamestop has a few used already which isnt a good sign as far as a fanbase goes. So whos got one of these bad boys or is seriously considering it? If you got one, do you at all regret your purchase? If you dont have one yet, whats stopping you?

I haven't seen a single game for it that I'd want to drop money on.

I bought one and then sold it 1 month later. Waste of $350. Luckily I got most of my money back on it.

I posted on an article the other day at my dismay of Sony releasing an update that just added Vita trophie support to the PS3 PSN. Always takes my updates about 20-30 minutes and its yet another update that doesn't add anything functional for a majority of the userbase. Its not as bad as the classic 'updates system becuase of crashing in some games' in the description, despite my console having no issues with any games crashing, ever.

Anyway, tons of disagrees later and it would appear that everyone on earth owns a Vita yet all I hear is how crap/boring it is with limited software. Go figure.

Why are people so desperate to run out and buy hardware with nothing to play on it? I don't understand.

I'll get it when there are actually games on it, I was thinking this christmas, but i'm still gonna just wait. It'll be cheaper and more games next year.

I bought one at launch, I'm not going to say it's the most amazing system ever, but I don't regret buying it. The best games on it right now are Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Wipeout, imo. But if I were you I would holdout for a price drop, with the way the thing is selling it's bound to happen soon.

I got one at launch and I don't get why people cry over their purchase. I mean sure, the platform needs more exclusive made content for it, but there are some good and even great games out there. As there also was at launch.

I mean, come on. Those that bought the 3DS at launch for 250 and had basically NO GAMES in the launch window to enjoy. Now I would really feel if I had a bad buy if I got that one.

It depends what you want. I mean, you get an incredible line up with some news stories of the big bro PS3.

Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, Rayman Origins, Streetfighter X Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Wipeout, Stardust Delta, Fifa, Motorstorm RC, Hustle Kings... Check out the new game Sound Shapes too.

Besides that some platform specific stuff like Escape Plan, Gravity Rush, Zero Escape (new great game!), Playstation All Stars (cross over with PS3 too, but also online competing for both platforms). Upcoming Tear Away from Media Molecule looks good too. Assassins Creed gets its own story on PSVita.

Besides that, look at the rating of games for PSVita and 3DS. And keep in mind the PSVita in the west (USA/EU) is just out a bit over a half year now:

The 3DS scorelist:

To me the PSVita has the more interesting games, I don't care for more Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Starfox and other decades and decades older IP's... I already got them rehashed on my Wii.

Sony just needs to lower the PSVitas price to well under 200 bucks. People don't buy handhelds at a pricelevel of 250, surely not if a PS3 even is cheaper or it can almost get one a new WiiUpgrade...

Is the system worth it? IMO it is, it gives good games, it has an awesome OLED screen, it gives even a better PSN experience than on the PS3 (it has cross game chat! even!) and the games will follow.

Best is to try one on a demopod or at a friends place I guess!

EDIT

OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT: with PS+ arriving on the PSVita, giving an instant game collection like the PS3 got them this summer, get a subscription on that and enjoy a lot of games. This november it starts for PSVita. If you got a PS3 too, its a total no brainer as you get the subscription once and have both PS3 and PSVita supported by it.

I don't follow the PSVita news but a user here told me awhile back that R* are supporting the Vita and are developing for it so yes, I'm seriously considering buying one and I'll probably have one before the end of the year. I also hope to be able to play PSone games on it like I used to on my original PSP.

Yup the devs that like strong tech to build their games on will be on board. Its not even funny anymore how much more power PSVita has compared to the 3DS. A dev that wants to push hardware to its limits and a dev that likes to build on current gen home consoles at the same time has a far easier time getting their games running on PSVita compared to the 3DS.

And about your wish for PSone games, since firmware update 1.80 for PSVita Sony got PSone support:

True true. And the support of PSone games is awesome, thanks for letting me know. Are there many PSone titles available on PSN?

EDIT: @MD: Well that's great, thanks man ;)

There are quite a few PS1 games on PSN. Probably between 100-150

As a PS3 owner, I own a 3DS and actually regret getting it cause of the lack of games to play, I keep looking at the Vita getting cross play features, and psx titles, and wish I have bought a one instead, but to be honest I would wait for a price drop, it's inevitable.

I got one at launch and don't regret it, it's an amazing system. It is the definitive handheld, the dual sticks are in my opinion the best feature on it, the OLED screen is second, the fact that it's MULTITOUCH not single stylus touch like the 3ds is incredibly underrrated.
The games on it are good too, I own Wipeout, Gravity Rush, Mortal Kombat, Escape Plan, and many more. I just got Final Fantasy 6 for it too, which is awesome to replay again after so many years. Another great thing is that I can play the game on the Vita AND the on the PS3 if i like, its CROSS PLAY.
The Vita is definitely a great gift to get.

I've seen a few games I wanted to play, but I know it'd end up right next to my psp - gathering dust. Just don't use handhelds  enough

Some other interesting facts. The latest released games and its game scores. The PSVita recently got more higher reviewed games than 3DS, so the gameplay experience etc of the latest games seem to do better on the PSVita than the 3DS, screenshots of both on Metacritic. Also the kind of games in the PSVita list seem a better fit for an adult gamer, and to me has a more interesting spread over genres. I got Sound Shapes and damn it has nice music and great art design!

Unfair comparison really. Because you should look at the whole library, not just the last 90 days.

http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/vita?sort=desc&view=condensed

Both of which pale in comparison to DS and PSP.

Atm I only would want a PSVita for remote play and P4G.
Thou Gravity Rush looks fun.
