TheLastGuardian bought a Nintendo Wii, 4th home console after PS1 PS2 & PS3! - Tuesday, November 06, 2012 3:49 PM ( #1 )
I've mainly been gaming on PlayStation systems my whole life, as you may have known by now. I owned a few different Nintendo handhelds back in the day, but other than that I've only owned Sony systems. Yeah, PlayStations 1 through Vita have entertained me for countless hours since 1997. There's probably enough PlayStation games out there to last me the rest of my life. As long as I remain a gamer, I will always game on PlayStation systems. So far I own ~175 physical games and ~25 digital. At least seventy of those I bought in the last year. I have a lot of PlayStation games left to finish and there's so many more I want to buy. While I finish up some of my enormous PlayStation backlog, I figured I might as well start picking up some Nintendo games for my collection. It's been almost five years since I first got a PS3, usually I'd get a new home console by now. I really wanted to get another console and my local game store has plenty to choose from and low prices on games. So I bought a Wii. TheLastGuardian is no longer PlayStation exclusive.

I played about fifteen games using the PS Move and most of them were pretty enjoyable. I like the Wii-mote and nunchuk too, it's quite different from the Move. Since the Wii-mote has a d-pad, you can hold it sideways to play awesome side-scrollers like Kirby's Epic Yarn. I just found out the Wii-mote makes noise when I played New Super Mario Bros., I thought that was neat. I guess I'm a fan of motion controllers lol. I'm willing to try any Move or Wii games that interest me. I'm definitely playing Bioshock Infinite and Until Dawn with the Move next year. I've wanted a Wii this whole gen and GameCube BC was a huge plus, so now here I am, a proud owner of the best two consoles of the 7th gen. Sony Computer Entertainment and the PlayStation family will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm just done playing exclusively on PlayStation platforms. Sony will probably always be my favorite video game company since I grew up on PlayStation, Nintendo is my runner up for now. I look forward to playing many great PS3 and PS Vita games in 2013, and the PS4 will most likely be my preferred system next gen.

Action Game Exchange was having a sale on used games for 40% off, so after buying twenty PlayStation games, I decided to take advantage of the sale a bit more by getting another console with some cheap games for it. I think I got a really good deal overall. The console bundle was $67, you jelly I got a red one? The GameCube controller was $7. The games pictured below cost me about $190 altogether, Metroid Prime Trilogy being the most expensive. Their used price on it was sixty bucks, it only cost me $36 with the discount. Now that's a steal. What I played of the first MP was amazing. I also got Ikaruga for $15. I'm real happy I was able to get all these games at such low prices. This is only the beginning of my new collection. There are a lot more Wii and GameCube games I'm interested in buying. Eventually I'll get a NES, SNES, N64, 3DS and other systems I want like Sega's old consoles, a gaming PC and more. I'd buy a Xbox 360 or maybe a 720 if I wouldn't have to subscribe to XBL Gold to access the online portion of the games. I can already get most of the 360's library on my PS3, so for me XBL Gold is not worth paying for just to play a few Xbox exclusives online. If the nextbox gets enough good exclusives, then I might reconsider. Anyways, I look forward to playing lots of great Nintendo games. Nintendo released a Wii exclusive a couple months ago that I plan on getting. What do you think first party support for the Wii will be like after the Wii U launches?

Recommend me your favorite Wii and GameCube games please. I'm looking for a good deal on DKCR and Kirby's Dream Collection. Amazon has some cheap Wii games I want too like Madworld, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor and Metroid: Other M. I could especially use some GameCube game recommendations.

Get Wind Waker, get the star fox games, ANIMAL CROSSING IS A MUST HAVE. Pikmin 1 and 2. Pokemon Colosseum. Mario Party (on the gamecube is before it got ruined). Make sure you download the Banjo Kazooie games from the store. I think it's a few bucks. Star Wars Rebel Strike Rogue Squadron. Super Monkey Ball.

Add Soccer Slam to that mix, the only good soccer game ever made.  As well as Orcarina Of Time (even if you've played it before, it's good to have on a disc).

I will say I do remember Super Paper Mario being an excellent Wii game.  Definitely need to add that one to your library.

TLG . . . Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. I know you like platformers, trust me you'll love these games. Obviously you might as well try a Zelda game, up to you which one you choose. Get the Phoenix Wright games from the store if you want something a little different.
You should get Resident Evil 4 on the Wii as well, if you've got nothing to play.

Killer 7 on the GameCube is great and Viewtful Joe:

Yes I forgot Paper Mario Bman. Paper Mario if it's on the store, and Super Paper Mario. Believe it or not but they're held high in RPG standards. Very good games.

I haven't played Xenoblade chronicles, but if you like JRPGs then it's apparently very good. P Wizzy has it, you can ask him if you're interested.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is worth giving ago, you get to play one of the oldest and most established franchises in gaming history. It's a great opportunity to experience them all on one disk.

Muramasa is also something a little different:

Always knew TLG was a gamer at heart. This only reinforces it.

Personal fav. would be skyward sword, haven't beat it yet..
that or Xenoblade Chronicles.

I got Animal Crossing: City Folk and Star Fox Adventures already. I saw Pokemon Colosseum and Super Monkey Ball at the store, but decided not to buy them. I want Wind Waker, Super Paper Mario, Pikmin, Rogue Squadron and Banjo Kazooie. Are Mario Partys any good for single player?

I want Viewtiful Joe and I'll check out the Phoenix Wright games and Killer 7.

I was recently playing Wind Waker on a soft-modded Wii in widescreen, since you can use the widescreen hack through one of the usb loaders available.

Pretty much all the best games have been mentioned already - Skyward, Xenoblade, Rogue Leader, Viewtiful Joe, Resi Evil 4 Wii, Galaxy 2

Mario Party is boring by yourself, it's really a game to play with friends.

I'd also try out the New Super Mario Bros. You mentioned you want to get a N64, SNES and NES. A lot of the best games on those system are on the Virtual Console. You can download them and it might save you a bit of cash instead of buying the actual consoles, unless of course you 100% want the consoles.

Softmod that Wii, it gives you emulators for all old consoles including NES, SNES, N64, Megadrive... Lets you even play Duck Hunt on an LCD with Wiimote being the zapper gun!

Yup, the Wii is a supercharged Gamecube too. But softmodded it has its use, emulating old Nintendo systems which were great is good!

I heard Xenoblade Chronicles was good too, I'll have to try it out sometime

I bought Metroid Prime Trilogy, played it a little bit and loved it.

Not sure if Muramasa is for me, I like the art style though.

Awww, thanks Skv.
I want Skyward Sword and every other Zelda game, but I'm gonna start with Twilight Princess.
I'd like to get Xenoblade, but I'm already in the middle of a few RPGs and getting P4G in two weeks.
I thought of using that TLG line as the thread title, but decided to just put it in the OP instead.

Ho do you soft-mod your Wii?

How do I change the TV resolution setting to HDTV 480P? I can only select 480i for some reason, but it's hooked up to my Sony Bravia.

I'll get Galaxy 2 after I beat the first one. Oh I also want the Resident Evil remake on GameCube. Nobody mentioned World of Goo, I have to play that.

Which NSMB? I thought only the first one was on Wii. I already got it, didn't you see the picture of Nintendo games I bought? I'm sure the Virtual Console has plenty of games worth buying, but I mostly want to spend money on collecting physical games. I want to start collecting games for retro systems eventually.

I almost bought the first one, but the employee there told me the Wii version was better. I read that it's basically the GameCube version with new features.
