Why I hate buying digital games= No refunds
-

I recently bought 2 games on Steam. One did not work on Windows 8 and the other was just a bad game. I realize I made a mistake before a week passed. So I tried to get a refund from Steam only to realize they do not give refunds. I learn my lesson and will be more cautious. I am also now scared to spend anymore money on Steam. Imagine if I will have spend $60 on a game that did not work. Kinda scary.

Email Steam support, if your pc doesnt run it they probably will give you a refund. Most of the time it seems to work since they dont want to frustrate their customers and want to make sure their customers dont feel worried about buying on steam.

You realize there are system requirements for PC games right? You can't blame Win8, it is a new platform. Not every single game will be compatible with it right off the bat. I'm assuming those $60 are new console ports (Usually, PC centric games are $50), which are exactly that. New, and ported from consoles. Never a good sign to buy that game. I have over 150 games on Steam. Pretty much all of them work as intended within the right requirements. Also, Haha Windows 8

I realize that Win8 is the issue for one of the games. That is not the issue i have when buying digital. The problem is that I want a refund before 7 days. They could have looked at how many hours I put into the game(none) and just gave me a refund. Retail such as Game-stop give refunds to customers if they made a mistake or did not like a game. Btw- Steam support did not want to give me a refund. I filed a dispute with paypal. They also revoked the games from my library.

I understand what you're trying to say. On any other platform it is feasible. Go to the store, buy the game, find out you don't like it, return it within the allotted time. I think this is a feature needed in Steam. On Android you are given a 15 minute period for getting a refund form an app. Steam should have a feature similar to this. But seeing as how a 15GB game is much much larger than a 5MB app, the time between purchasing and asking for a refund should be extended to, say, 3 days. This gives the user plenty of time to download a game and try it out. I guess it's not really transparent right off the bat but there are limitations to the Steam ecosystem that hinder this (for now).

There are people who handle that same period of time to beat games with rentals or even console game returns. Too much time. Two-Three hours at the most.

Or even better to prevent confusion there should be a window that shows your the required specs before you check out... That way you dont buy anything too demanding for your system to run.

Should be 1 hour in-game time, kinda like how PS+ does it

Steam should give you a refund if your game doesn't work. If you don't like a game and want to return it, that's too bad.

Considering that STEAM can scan your system it will be nice if there was warning that what you are about to purchase might not work with your current system (specially in the case of games that are widely known not work in specific OSs like Mirrors Edge or Borderlands)

Play the game for 1 hour before you decide to buy it or not and unlock it...is good imo. If you don't want it or it didn't work, you don't have to pay and it remains locked
