Original New Tomb Raider Concept

The original concept for the new Tomb Raider was completely different to what will be released early next year: From NeoGaf:
It was originally about lara marooned on a Japenese island that she could explore. The island was inhabitad by strange creatures from japenese folklore. It was open world with metroidvania elements and it would have had a survival horror slant.
So does anyone think this wood have been a more interesting route for the series to take? I personally would have liked to have seen this game, it could have been something unique, it might have even have made a great survival game.
