Coming from someone who owns both, it's far too early to say which one will be the "worst purchase". Wii U hasn't been out a month yet so saying it has no games is a bit premature. Vita is only about a year old so the same thing stands. PSP and PS3 had a crap lineup when they released for a good while, then PSP took over as king of RPGs and still holds that title for this gen. PS3 has a great lineup of first and third party games along with all the family/entertainment features. With that being said, it sounds like you don't own a WiiU if you think the online service is "terrible", because the only bad part about it is that you have to do that silly "I add you, and you add me" thing instead of a real friend request, which can be changed via some update. It's also due to Nintendo try really hard to keep parental control on the thing without parents having to actually patrol their children(sad but if the manufacturer doesn't do it then we have another "SexBox 360 Fox news fiasco). ANYWAY, the WiiU online service is actually one of the best as far as community, with each game having its own community where you can posts questions for help or just talk abou the game or talk about random things, something that no other console has. Playstation Home is close, but it lacks the individual game hub for EACH game. Basically the WiiU has integrated forums into all the games and allows you to post things you have done while in game to that forum thing. For example, SMBU asked me to post something after I made it through a level without getting touched - i posted a pic, goes to the forums, people like it(calleda a "yeah" or something like that) or comment on it yadda yadda. TL:DR - too early to have an educated estimate, wiiU online isn't bad op probably doesn't own one. WiiU has some great community features that no other console has - Steam has it but steam is boss and everyone needs to catch up and get on that level.

Lol wut? Vita for me was a huge letdown and a waste of the $400 I spent on it and games. The Wii U has an amazing online experience so I don't know what you are talking about. Miiverse is awesome.

Wii U needs a price drop and at least one game developed by Nintendo from the ground up for the console. No real interest in Vita.

Vita is just hopeless. There's no reason to have a WiiU right now other than ZombieU but would you really drop $400 to play ZombieU? Didn't think so. Needs more games and a price drop.

Vita, only because it's the only one I've purchased. I recently saw a graph showing the upcoming exclusives and multiplats on each system for 2013... Wii U was getting maybe 5 of all of the multiplats coming to the PS3/Xbox 360 and of the exclusives it has coming for 2013, I'm not interested at all. Simply not my cup of tea. As for the Vita, I've yet to hear about any upcoming must-buy exclusives. The big hits seem to be knock-offs of huge franchises. As of right now I'd only purchase Persona 4, but I bought this hoping it would cure my JRPG fix. Persona 4 isn't going to cut it.

for me I never got into Handhelds too much so... I would always pick a console over a handheld... that said... never need a handheld since I don;t leave home too much... That said... I think SOny blew it with the vita... it was the device that should have been launched first before the PSP... the PSP was to break the ice... and it did a poor job of it... Vita would have turned the nintendo strong hold upside down if they lead with the vita.... A case of too little too late.... that said... the tech is great just not enough games... to draw gamers too it.... As for the Wii U it is an excellent buy and value... and will do the job greatly.... it will ply some hot great new games.... As for PC people... you just have to get over it. understand there is a market for this item... and it will most likely to very very very well...

It won't sell half as many units as the Wii. No I don;t think they will sell anywhere near what the wii sold.... that was a fad to have... for lot.... That said.. it will still do very well... and I would say more than Half half the wii that is a little low half... it will be about 3/4 of the wii... That all said as long as i get pikmin 3 and a zelda and I hope a pilot wings... I am happy.... The wife likes nintnendo games way more than wither the xbox or ps3..... and it is I think perfect for getting kids into the gaming world... I mean most of the games are geared for family settings... they are not reinventing anything here.... I think it will be a lot of the same... women kids and some games here and there that tug at the old grey matter... like the three I mentioned above... and it is a formula that works... if they sell the system and a game...... they are making a profit.... unlike the wii when they made a profit off of the systems alone... That said.. you very well could be right.... they have made many mistakes.... One big one is naming it wii U lighting will not strike twice... aybe they forgot their market they are selling too or something.... it should have been wii 2 or nintendo X I think it is going to cause confusion.... they had the same problem with the 3DS they had to put stickers one the boxes because parents and grandparents and other causal gamers thought it was the same device when the two boxes were compared of a DS and a 3ds... They may have shot themselves in the foot we will see...

Won't buy the WiiUnderpowered, but have tried it and read a lot about the online etc. I own the PSVita and am very happy with it. Those saying it has no games really need to get their head checked. There are more surprising games than on the 3DS with same old same old Mario, Zelda etc and their spinoffs. Recent Persona Golden 4, Sine Mora, LBP, Sound Shapes, besides the games that are good and there for a bit longer like Gravity Rush and all the others... Thing is, it might not be your kind of games yet for an individual gamer. That is the same with the WiiU though, what does it have? A ZombieU game that is just alright, then some old ports of games that are on the PS360 and run better on it. A few reasons why I think the WiiU would be the worst purchase seen from another perspective, not just the games: OS: WiiU has a sloppy OS with apps that start slow, some take 20 to 30 seconds to load. PSVita has a very fast OS. The apps load fast, it is a multitask monster. Play a game and during play switch to the web browser and check whatever. Or open up your mailaccount, twitter, anything. It is fast. Online: Nintendo never understood online well and it'll need a long time to get up to XBL/PSN. PSVita runs PSN and it does a better job in the online department than the PS3. It has cross game chat/partychat, the store loads fast and navigates fast. Having a ful PSN on the go (especially when you use WiFi on the PSVita, and 3G tethered from a smartphone or MiFi 3G modem, instead of directly from a 3G PSVita, you can use ALL PSN functionality incl online gameplay) is magic in the hands. Portability/quality of the handheld/controller (in WiiU's case the tablet controller). Many talk about the option to keep playing a game on WiiU when other familymembers use the TV. Basically the tablet controller becomes a 'handheld' comparable to the PSVita. Problem though: the WiiU tablet only works well on a distance of 5 to 7 feet. Beyond that it'll get streaming problems. So playing from other rooms/bedroom while others use the TV is a no go. PSVita as a dedicated handheld obviously can travel where ever one goes. But even if we exclude it being a handheld and go into remote control/play with the PS3, so basically doing the same as the WiiU and its tablet, the PSVita wins in portability and can go all through the house. Quality of the WiiU tablet compared to PSVita. This is no comparison. When the WiiU tablet gets shaken, one hears a rattle sound of the buttons. It sounds cheap already. The thing looks like cheap plastic, it feels like a toy. The 1 touch screen, it is just a blown up DS screen. The PSVita is all quality. From its buttons to its multitouch screen. It is just the take Sony has on hardware, they want quality. Nintendo seems to make choices to have it cheaper because they had to hit that 300 to 350 bucks pricelevel. In the end it'll come down to whatever games the systems are gonna get the coming months/year and if they are in the genre that you prefer, if the purchase was good for you or not. One thing I know: the PSVita has more games and a more diverse library of games/wider offers in different genres than the WiiU has at this moment. If I combine that with all the stuff just mentioned but especially the fluid OS/fast booting apps on PSVita and the integrated PSN offering a premium online, the WiiU would be the worst purchase of the two. If one wants a WiiU it is better to wait for revision 2.0 with improved quality of the tablet, the OS updated and the apps loading in 2 seconds, with online that is comparable to XBL/PSN.

I'm enjoying my Vita and use it all the time. I got the WiiU day one and knew there wouldn't be much for me to play at the time of getting it. As of right now, none of them are my worst purchases. I knew what I was getting into, when I bought both consoles and knew there wouldn't be much for me to play at day one. But when you are on a gaming site, you need to own more than one console, if you want to join in a meaningful conversation about certain consoles. I'll get back to you in a year after the WiiU and another year after the Vita is out before I can really say if I regret my purchases. But I doubt I will. There are way to many games out and coming for both consoles, to really not like any of them. I like the Vita, because I can game anywhere and I love the WiiU because I can game in bed and not miss my TV shows. Each one has their ups and downs. It just about knowing how to use each to benefit you. Going back to my Vita. It was just updated to 1.13; 4000 songs available offline instead of 1000, I can adjust music while playing a game or in another app while listening to offline music and I can set whether I want to use key tones. How do I get this to space out my mini paragraphs? I'm spacing them out but they don't show up on this post as they should.

On Principle, Vita. I expected much more from Vita. WiiU, i have no expectations from tbh. So it can only 'go up' from there so to speak. But, if I had to pick the lesser evil, so to speak, it'd be Vita.. easily.

WiiU is by far the worst if you are expecting good console third party support. The system is pretty much not getting any of the big AAA third party games next year and all of the third party games announced at the VGAs are not for WiiU. That is a very horrible sign. I still think the system will do fine with its great Nintendo games.
This is a manly picnic. No glasses, no napkins, whisky only, the beverage of true men....... and pretzels.

If you browse GAF there were dudes that actually thought it would get amazing third party support out of the gate the same happened with the Wii and Gamecube for many gamers. But the system is in sort of a worse situation then the Wii regarding third parties. Back then the Wii did not get many of the big third party games because it could not run them without major degrades. This time the WiiU can run these games but its just not getting them.

Remember that slide show at E3 with all the 3rd party games on it? Nintendo have given an impression to some gamers that the WiiU will have more 3rd party support then any prior Nintendo console. People are expecting Nintendo to work with developers to get as many games on the system as possible.

At this point they are both moreso considered investments. Seeing as how I already have PS+ and a quality home console the VITA was clearly a more appealing investment for me. The only thing that appeals to me from Nintendo (that I actually expect) would be Super Smash Bros., Mario Galaxy 3(if it feels new and unique), any Retro Studio games, Zelda(if they take it in the right direction), and an occasional party game. On the other hand I can expect new IPs and unique new series entries with countless more being added for me to try as part of a service I'm already paying for with the VITA.
