Hey PC gear heads... - Tuesday, December 11, 2012 4:02 PM ( #1 )
Was hoping some of you have had or have these cards... Which GPU you think you would want to snag...

If you have anyone of these cards, do you like it... how is it... any pitfalls... or troubles...

which one would you recommend...

Are these GPUs for ants?

In any case, go for the cheapest one.
A 7870 might give a better bang for the buck. The ~300$ GPU range is kind of a goofy one.

I'd avoid AMD to be honest, their drivers are awful.

Really depends on what the rest of your computer looks like, if your cpu sucks there's no point in dropping $350 on a gpu when there's a bottleneck.

Yeah I am having a problem with my AMD 6850 with driver issues...  seems like every other update has issues with streaming videos from off the net...

as for the CPU the one I have is an i3 but looking at getting a i7 or I5... when I order the gpu...

Yeah if I were you I'd wait, I have my 5850 and it still performs to my liking. You could always OC it for a boost in performance. And boxing day is around the corner if you really want to get something sooner.

And I bet you're often wrong and assume a lot as your post clearly shows.

Yeah, I used a Gigabyte 6850 for over a year, upgraded to a gigabyte 660ti a few months ago and don't regret it at all.

NVIDA is def. paying more for the driver support.
They have a awesome driver support.

I have a AMD card, and it seems every now and then I have to re-roll an old driver (or not update) before I can be sure it won't kill a game of mine.
I prefer AMD thou, better bang for buck. If you don't mind the driver hassles occasionally.

Yeah that is what i am having a problem with is the drivers.... it seems the come out with a new one or big one and it mess up streaming for me than latere a smaller one fixes it and then it starts the process over again...

In the end what I may do is the processor this year than a new GPU the following... that way I can maximize the bucks for both...  food for thought ....

Same.  Except for Rage.  That thing won't run on my system.

Edit:  Never had to revert to an old driver.  Only ever had to update.

Edit2:  Haven't owned any of those.

Rage runs like a champ, after the two huge updates that is.
I could play that game on Max settings on my HD5670 (res: 1440x900), had a stable 60 FPS the whole time.

One of the reasons why I loved Rage soo much, it played perfectly, without a hitch.

Not sure if any of you have tried to play Saints Row 3 on an AMD card. 15-25 fps while driving is fun.

It runs perfectly now. It had quite a few issues when it was launched. At one point, the game didn't even load textures and you'd be treated to blue hell.
It runs like a dream now.

AMD usually messes up with OpenGL (like Brink), but other than that, it's not that bad.
nVidia has physX, so that might be another thing worth considering.
I've mostly stuck to AMD cards in the past because in the past, they tend to have better bang/buck and consume less power.
