Gamefly.com downloads? - Wednesday, December 19, 2012 12:29 AM ( #1 )
So i was looking trying to look up Direct2drive or whatever the site was to see if i could still download my old games and i seen they merged with GameFly.com so i started looking around at there store. The prices are rediculous. They are selling BF3 for $15. My question is though, am i renting the game or what? These prices are rediculous. They don't seem possible unless there is some catch to them. Has anyone used GameFly.com to purchase games at? They are cheaper than Steam
<sjel> yeah well, trying to correct people on irc or in forums is like skating uphill.. backwards

They are using the same strategy that Amazon is doing to compete with STEAM sales....give absurd discounts (At CAG Amazon pretty much confirmed that they are doing this)

So to keep thing shorts...yes you are buying the game

Essentially you can rent PC games under there "unlimited PC play" section from the gamefly application. Newer games of course are only sold for the PC. Unless you find them in the unlimited play section. I bought Mass Effect 3 (PC) from gamefly. Ultra cheap. There end of the world sale is going on still. Its a good alternative to steam for buying games.

so when buying from them its like having the CD version i guess you would say. They won't use the Steam servers or anything? Im still going to wait for Steam's Holiday sale though. Gamefly is pretty interesting though with those cheap prices. I just don't think they will be selling Company of Heroes Complete for anything cheaper than $30. I love that game

I think they might have their own ****ty DRM. I'd stay away, I think D2D does have it's own DRM thou. Pretty sure it's not DRM free... I personally prefer my DRM to be steam IF anything at all. I really hate Ubi's DRM, and Secu-rom as well.

If the game uses STEAM DRM they give you a key so you can activate it on STEAM, some other games they provide with retail keys to activate in the corresponding service (For example: The Assassins Creed 3 and Far Cry 3 use Uplay, Many of EAs new games use ORIGIN) and depending on the the game key and availability it might also register on STEAM

You like Company of Heroes and you didn't bought the THQs Humble Bundle?!!

I recommend you checking Amazons Holiday Sale as well since they seem to be offering deals that are a LOT better that what STEAM sales have historically offered (and Amazon seem to be actively interested in offering bigger savings than STEAM this holiday)

BF3 only uses Origin, so that's interesting if GameFly is selling it. Soon I will probably try buying a different game from them.

Says rigth on there, that BF3 requires origin. Probably just give you a key for origin then.  .

This title requires EA Origin and a permanent internet connection to play.
