Unsecured webcams = spy on people - Saturday, January 05, 2013 11:57 AM ( #1 )
Just saw this thread on NeoGaf... http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=506882

Someone has taken google maps, and used it as a map so people can spy on people through their unsecured webcams: http://cams.hhba.info/

Click on the red icon and you can look into people homes, business's etc.

If you don't cover your webcam or secure it properly, you better do so now.

Majority of those are unsecured for a reason.  So companies can view their employees working from home.  These are 'always up' web-connected security cameras for the most part, not Web cams on PCs.

Edit: More than likely all this guy did was take location and video stream info from a Web-cam service provider (read: web site) and throw it on a Google map.  Nothing to do with 'hacking' unprotected Web cams at all.

Not going to look at site any more because it's wrong to be spying on people.

But if anyone here does have a webcam, i suggest making sure it's covered in some way. Btw the person who made this is some random of the internet, imagine how simple something like this must be for a govt agency to do.

@Cgood . . . i've clicked on a few and seen a family watching tv in their living room together, another webcam showed someone looking after their cat.

Yeah, and those are also security camera's with web-enabled purposes.  These aren't PC Web cams left unlocked by accident.   Parents install security cams in their homes to watch entrances and their kids.  I saw one with a baby.  One with three baby puppies.  These are very common, open channel video streams that tend to be hosted by a Web site.   Sure, some are from a PC, but they serve the same purpose and are open on purpose.

FUD.

Example link: http://190.186.158.61:8080/anony/mjpg.cgi

They're all utiizing a common API for managing their Web cam data to an external source.  As I said, this is just someone who has a list of these Web IPs, likely taken from the Web site or similar service provider that these people use to display the videos online.  These are purposefully open to the public by running through the API.  They're not just hacked and open to the world and the mjpg.cgi doesn't exist for every PC camera attached to an IP out there.

Based on your luck your wish will probably backfire, and you 'll end up catching a fat ugly dude fapping to online porn.

A lot of them look like businesses, but some do look residential. This is why I don't have a cam. If I did, it would be unplugged. If it was built-in, it would have tape over it.

Tape over it? You can turn a built in/ external webcam off in your control panel.
