Windows 8 Software Installation issues - Friday, January 11, 2013 6:01 PM ( #1 )
I'm trying to use XNA Game Studio Device Center, but it says that it needs .NET Framework 3.5 installed to work. Problem is, the d*mnable thing won't install! It keeps giving an error claiming it can't connect to the internet to download the files. It does the same thing when I try to activate .NET Framework 3.5 through Control Panel -> Programs -> Turn Windows Features On or Off. What could the problem be? This is getting on my bl**dy nerves now!

Attached are a few captures of what it typically says. Also attached is my Windows version, which says "Debug" at the end. Would that have anything to do with it?

I'd recommend either contacting Microsoft or installing the superior Windows 7.

Did you legally acquire a retail version of Windows 8?

Be honest now.

I'm yet to know someone who bought Windows legally.

If you go to any university, you usually get it for free and legally. That is how I've acquired both Windows 7 and 8.

Same.  Cost me only $14, though.

He's not even trolling. Everyone who has had issues with Windows 8, it was because of Windows 8 itself.

Are you suggesting that hardware never fails, and that users are incapable of making user errors? I don't tend to think so highly of people, or component quality myself.

Windows 8 has given me no issues and it's an incredibly good operating system. Metro takes some getting used to, but the under-the-hood changes are what really counts.

Alternatively you can install Linux. I mean, you won't be able to run XNA but hey - you get access to all 42 games on Steam. That is how many games are on Steam...right?

When steambox is released, they will all be playable on Linux. its the beginning of the end for windows. Devs are jumping the windows train and heading on over to TuxTown.

That is the farthest stretch of thought I have ever seen in my life.

Anyway, none of you have actually helped the guy with his problem which I suppose is the cool thing to do when you hate Windows so much

The article I linked should solve the issue TC. Let us know.

The best bet for him is to install W7 and wait for the bugs to be sorted out in W8. That is literally all he can do.

That is not literally all he can do, that's just what you think he should do. That's a much greater hassle than simply doing an offline install for 3.5.

My advice is to not take Windows-specific advice from those who condemn Windows, it would be like me asking the frontpagers which Xbox 360 game to get next and expecting some valid answers
