Big Leak? Is this the "New Xbox" logo and name?

So i was browsing Gaf and one of the posters came across a glitch on the Xbox website (he says):

There have been rumours that the Durango will just be called "Xbox", and the above logo will be used as it's new logo.

So there could be a new logo, but what about the next-gen console being called "Xbox". Will it cause confusion like the WiiU or are they counting on people to know it's a new product like the iPad?

I think, if it's true, MS are going to launch the console as a new "Xbox" experience, hence the name. Plus i don't think many people remember the old Xbox. It won't be a problem for consumers as people are going to walk into a store and ask for a "new xbox" and they'll be given what they want. MS's marketing of the console won't be a screw up like Nintendo with the WiiU either.

The logo looks the same and so does the layout. And the name is just "xbox" or "the new xbox" lol

Why is the pic cut off right before the good stuff is shown? It looks like the console on the right is just a recent model 360. The menu interface on the TV screen is also that of the 360. Seems fake to me. 

For the sake of convenience I guess "Xbox" is fine. I would hope that not creating a new identity means that Microsoft will be making the new console fully backwards compatible with Xbox and 360 games. That would make some sense. I'd prefer Xbox 720.

And when the industry already has silly names like "vita" and PSOrbis", it would be really hard to be disappointed with the name of M$'s next console.

Its odd. Why is the pucture cut off? Maybe it just shows a 360. That being said, i can see them naming it just "xbox". A lot of rumors are floating around saying new sony console will just go back to "playstation". I prefer this trend (the one thing i think apple got right recently). At what point does it become ridiculous, playstationn 4, 10, 32 or xbox 720, 1080, 3600 :-/

Would you mind putting up the site as it normally is for comparison? The logo looks simplified to two tone (Not sure if they have used that in marketing before). And maybe circle "The New Xbox" tab, as my eyes skimmed right over it.

Thanks Noc. After checking the error level analysis I can say I'm 90% positive there is no Photoshopping. Particularly around the part that would have been easiest to see: "The New Xbox" tab. For comparisons sake: Please note: the squaring off of links is normal considering the size Noc cut the pic down to and a larger screen cap would show with the same level of quality in the links. I may do several tests to verify, but there is a possibility that the links are too clean to be actual links.

That's been the new Xbox logo for a few months now on WP and W8.

 

Yeah I don't get it either. It's just the slim Xbox in the picture and looks like just a small update of the current logo, nothing major. I think Red's anticipation for the next-gen consoles is making him lose his marbles.

Looks to me like this could have been one of the old website ads just before they introduced the Kinect-dashboard connectivity update.  Nothing about this makes me think it's about Xbox 720.

But doesn't that make it harder to market it as a successor? 

For those that don't get the importance: The ad in the pic (where the edge of the 360 can be seen) is one that is currently running on their site now, while the logo is a recently updated form that is in use on WP8. There is a tab saying "The New Xbox" where "Xbox 360 + Kinect" normally sits. After double checking the error analysis I can say there was no Photoshopping to place the two edges together nor overlap. In fact the compression on the screen cap from cutting the edges in a photo editing program appears to be less than the preset for the photo editing program I use normally (which is a freebie BTW, so it can be expected). "The New Xbox"...confirmed name.

I don't think so.  I think that enough people know the playstation and xbox brands to differentiate enough
