720 announcement March - May

Sources familiar with the Microsoft console tell Polygon that Microsoft, while already aware of Sony's launch timing, plans to hold its own announcement this spring, months after Sony's unveiling. A variety of form-factors for Microsoft's new console, we're told, are already being focus tested.


Both next generation consoles will focus on expanding their reach beyond core gaming to include more entertainment and social aspects, according to our sources. That could include, we're told, a subsidized version of the Xbox that serves as both a gaming platform and a cable box, though agreements with cable companies have yet to be finalized. Last year, The Verge reported that Microsoft was also working on a subsidized low-cost alternative to its next-gen console.  Microsoft has already experimented with subsidized Xbox 360s, offering discounted consoles to those willing to pay for a two-year Xbox Live membership.

I'll wait for the 2nd version that looks like an Alienware PS4.

Aside from the illumiroom, theres pretty much no news on the new xbox. The first time microsoft has kelt quiet about....anything.  this could be good or bad, I just hope the guys in the labcoats are whiping up a leviathon to unviel on announcement day.

 tbh I couldn't care too much about a screen in the controller. it imo is just following the leader like kinect and the PlayStation wand did following the success of the wiimote. id rather microsoft show something original( even dreamcast had a scredn in the controller). we'll see thiugh like I said the silence is good. something's cooking

Anything but kinect, worst thing to grace gaming since the virtual boy.

If they do bundle it with the cable box features it will be the biggest POS unless it has pc gaming quality cooling. That will literally be a space heater... 

Most cable boxes Ive seen run pretty warm to hot. Why would you want to put more stress on your console by having it needlessly hot to watch cable?

I can see MS's plan.


Offer next gen gaming and cable tv in one box to entice the masses. Maybe they're aiming for households to have these boxes/console upstairs and downstairs. The thing is going to play 95% of the game that come out in the market anyway, the cable access could be an attempt to create a new selling point for the console. A way to differentiate itself from the competition.

But you only want to keep them warm, not melt the ice caps.

So, even more suggestions that MS is going to focus less on gaming. 


Don't worry, I'm totally sure those 4 "new" ips will not be for the kinect at all.  



And cablebox, really?  Also, as MS as done with everything else, they'll hide everything behind a paywall, you'll have to pay to access the cable services you are already provided.

Anyway, I'm very interested in seeing MS's next console. I refuse to decide between the PS4 and 720 blindly - we'll have to see launch lineups, hardware prices, and games on the horizon first.

Yes YLOD was bad, but no where as bad as RROD, where I live you wouldn't get a replacement on RRODed Xboxs, due to the absence of warranty, everyone knows that the 360 was the least reliable console this gen. Until Microsoft start treating " overseas " gamers better, I will never pick any of their consoles day one, Sony on the other hand offers all buyers here a one year warranty.
