postal service to stop saturday delivery... what else will this effect?

when the postal service gets rid of saturday delivery in august, that means that's one day a week they won't be using trucks to deliver our mail. that means that's hundreds of THOUSANDS of gallons of gas that won't be used.  let's see if the rules of supply and demand really work... let's see if gas prices go back to where they were in 2008. #randomthought

Economics works nothing like that. Gas won't change. And the postal service is in financial trouble, but it's not because of gas.

Canada has not had postal service on saturday for as long as I can remember so I doubt it will make a difference since gas prices are inflated...

It will affect businesses the most. I rely on Saturday delivery for my ebay business and will again when garage sale season starts up again.

It's just one more strike against the already pathetic USPS. They hire very inept people and just don't give a damn about your mail

I swear my USPS hires the stupidest, laziest people. They have one employee that is a complete jerk to everyone that walks in to the USPS. He gets like 15 complaints a month and he still has a job.


They have one saving grace and that is my letter carrier. She is awesome. Mail comes very promptly and she is always friendly. I don't know what her name is so I have decided to call her "Jan". She looks like a Jan to me. I hope I never find out her real name.

Does this mean more lay offs?

Maybe I just live in a good spot, 'cause I've never had a problem with the USPS. FedEx might have faster delivery, but they're also more expensive. UPS is more expensive AND takes longer than USPS. Only UPS could charge me $10 to drive a t-shirt across the country over the course of 2 weeks.

Truth.

Boohoo, we're lucky to even get post everyday from Monday-Friday with how lazy our postmen are tbh.

In 10-15 years we won't even be using physical mail any more.  We'll have online mailboxs because every thing will be paperless.  The only things we'll actually continue to get will be packages, and Fed Ex/UPS pretty much does all of that as it is, not the USPS.  They are in financial ruin and this is only the first step they are taking to keep afoot.

What do you expect, these are the same people that could not turn a proffit with horse racing.
