After the sad UK software sales, the even worse January USA hardware sales just got in, ouch, just ouch...

"Gamasutra is reporting (or should we say tweeting?) that cumulative three-month Wii U sales have fallen 38% versus Wii’s first three months of availability in the US. If true – which it sounds like it is at this point – Nintendo’s new console sold just 55,000 units in the country last month. NPD tracked sales for five weeks this time around as opposed to the typical four, so Wii U moved only 11,000 units per week.
55,000 systems sold isn’t even close to the Wii’s January 2007 performance. Back then, the old console moved 436,000 pieces of hardware.

This news comes hot on the heels of a poor performance in the UK. January Wii U sales were at a measly 34,000 units, according to data collected by Chart-Track."

http://nintendoeverything...ells-only-55000-units/

I did not think the US sales were going to be amazing but holy ****.  As a WiiU owner myself I pretty sad.  Still excited for their upcoming games next year and Pikmin 3.

Its ok that you are excited. What is funny is that the Nintendo diehard fanboy on main site always calls Pikmin to save the hardware sales. I doubt it.

Pikmin 1 on Gamecube sold like 1.5 mln. Pikmin 2 on Gamecube sold 1.2 mln or something. Pikmin 1 on Wii remake sold 600k, Pikmin 2 on Wii sold not even 400k...

Go figure.

Pikmin 3 is no system seller.  Though it would have helped if it was released soon.  Their big system sellers will probably not get here until late next year.

This is a manly picnic.  No glasses, no napkins, whisky only, the beverage of true men....... and pretzels.

Pikmin isn't a system seller, Zelda could be though.

One game that looks great that I totally wasn't paying attention to was MH3 Ultimate. I have quite a few friends who are waiting for the March 22nd bundle, because the amount of money you save there is ridiculous.

If I were a more patient person I would have waited for deals like that before diving in, but then again, I like buying stuff at launch. So I guess I can't complain

Looking back on my post just after E3 2011, with WiiU's reveal about 570 days ago, I was spot on about WiiU's 3rd party support and its future.

Yup Sidar, one of N4G's major Wiiboys, not surprised at all. Back then the other new Nintendo fanboys like Yabhero and who is that guy Pop something weren't around, or not that active.

And now it gone from bad to worse, to the worst position a just launched console can be in...
Selling less units than a handheld that does bad, is a disgrace for a homeconsole just launched months ago. Besides the fact that 3rd party games don't get sales, and it reinforces eachother. At least the PSVita has a pretty healthy library of games.

Seems that after the PS4 announcement everyone is forgetting about WiiU. And the integration of PSVita even more into PS4's ecosystem makes up a better future.

WiiUnderpowered is done pretty much.

Hopefully by the time all their Exclusives are out...the price is really low due to abysmal sales so Hardcore gamers can enjoy those exclusives

By rehashing New Super Mario Bros from Wii on WiiU I don't even see how core gamers will be getting a WiiU. Only the diehard Nintendo fanboys probably. Like I got the Wii and SMG 1 and 2 were great, New Super Mario Bros was fun, Donkey Kong was good. But I don't need the same just in HD to be fair.

Nintendo gotta drop that WiiU price really, really by a lot to get people more interested. But then again they said they learned from the 3DS and priced the WiiU so that they won't have to lower its retail price any further soon. That is what Nintendo themselves claimed, looking back at launching the 3DS for 250 at launch and had to cut it to 170 in no time.

As they already take a loss on each unit sold, earned back with a game sold, I don't see them cutting the price soonish. Nintendo earned on each Wii unit sold from launch, they don't like (big) losses on console units sold.

They have that Xeno successor too. I'm sure they'll have new games out(new rehashes I mean, more Zelda and Mario, maybe more metroid). People are fine buying Assassins creed again and again..and Uncharted, Cod, God of war etc. I mean People are ranting on about the new Killzone and that looks generic as ****. With the only thing new about it being the graphics.

I said it before, Nintendo's biggest problem is losing the grandmas/pas and other people like that who were on board with the simplicity of the Wii.

Don't agree, the Gamecube didn't sell that great either at 20 mln total sold. The real core Nintendo fanboys aren't gonna make WiiU sell the same as Wii, or even close to it.

Thing is, people that buy a new God of War, its just on its 4th part. Mario is decades and decades old and had how many games? All those other Nintendo IP's same story. Thing is, that 4th GOW goes aside other new IP's this gen. Something Nintendo is slacking in for a long time already.

Yup, this exactly. The Wiimote was easy to swing, the WiiU tablet is complicated like a normal controller/many buttons/sticks/triggers and to confuse even more a touchscreen added. Grannies don't like it.

I ain't saying it's gonna sell like the Wii....I never actually said anything about sales....I'm saying I will buy one when those exclusives come out and i'm sure other hardcore gamers would too if the system becomes cheap(which again..is what I said in my first post). God of war is on it's 7th now isn't it? Mario series varies, Galaxy is nothing like Super mario bros, more like Mario 64. Zelda has like 1 or 2 releases per system and varies enough to be a different game alot of the time. Again, I don't really care if they are rehashes so long as they are not the same game.

Good you're buying one, I won't unless its under 100 bucks maybe.

You're not very well informed. GOW3 was the last GOW released, with 2 GOW's on PS2. GOWA is a prequel to GOW story, so 4 in total now.

Well sure Nintendo changes up every now and then, but again, New Super Mario Bros U is cheapass porting Wii games. On Wii they did the same with Zelda, taken straight from the Gamecube. Nintendo just rehashes a lot. And still I see Sony putting more effort in brand new IP's like LittleBigPlanet, inFamous, The Last of Us, Puppeteer and more. I just don't see Nintendo do it as much, just cashing on old IP's and characters.

I think he was referring to the portable God of War entries as well, if we are gonna count portable Mario games as well, then may god help us all
