Witcher 3 v Skyrim - Saturday, February 16, 2013 3:37 PM ( #1 )
Recently the Developer of Witcher 3 called Skyrim generic.  Okay.  But, can the average screenshot from Witcher 3 be discernable from Skyrim?  I looked and well, what do you think?

Absolutely.  I just found his comments rather bizarre since the screenshots really could be from either game.

They both look like generic WRPG's. However they are both good games, and I'd argue that they both have "unique" features.

Are we comparing a game that isn't due for another 12-16 months to a game that's been heavily modded over the course of the last 15 months?

Not sure if serious. And for the record, Elder Scrolls games are all terribly boring games. It's not even a debate that Witcher is the better series.

Because graphics are everything amirite?

CDPR mentioned how quests played out and how NPCs all reacted the same way in one way or another among other things. And it wasn't exactly a "LOL SKYRIM IS SHEEET WITCHER 3 IS GONNA SLAP YOU SILLY BITCHEZZ" thing, it was more of a "this is one thing we thought the game could have done better and we hope to make sure we don't make those mistakes with our next game" thing.

Skyrim is incredibly generic though. It takes everything that is Nord mythology (or whatever, celtic? ) as the most barebones and over used cliches and then put them into the game.

I cannot comment on the Witcher 2 since I only know it as the pretty game that I haven't played.

The witcher has some of the most mature dialog, story, and choices in a game, no doubt about that, but in terms of artstyle it's generic as hell.

But CDPR never mentioned anything about Skyrim's art style or graphics being generic. (I know you're saying something separate but you dig what I mean. Everyone's just picking on graphics, it's stuff like this that means we're getting ****ter but prettier games now.)

I get what you mean, but i don't think having a different or more unique artstyle is gonna make the witcher ****ier. In fact i find artstyle to be a huge part of my enjoyment of games, heck half of my love for journey/okami is because of the artstyle. Artstyle can definitely make a game better.

I am going to say Skyrim... is the better game...

gameplay is awesome story is great and i tis out...

Screen shots are great when they are in development and this game is aimed at all the new tech and much higher end PCs 2 or 3 years from now...

I hate when a smaller name brand attaches itself to an world wide brand to get attention only to compare games that will be years apart and a generation apart... happens every time near the end of the life cycle of a generation of consoles what not...

Just burns me... that they think we are idiots...

"Evil People Suck"
Xbox One and gaming don't belong in the same sentence.

I think Skyrim is ****. For many reasons, all of the reasons add up to it being boring and repetitive. Don't know what witcher 3 will be like but Witcher 2 >>>>>>> Skyrim....oh also, reading the article, he's talking about the game, not the art style. He uses the word generic for 'bad'. Bad quests and story where what he was saying(especially how the quests do not affect anything at all, like New vegas did a little and the Witcher 2 and 1 did), but said their Open world was great for exploring

I like the quests in Skyrim and I am not saying that Witcher 2 was worse.  What I am saying is that Witcher 3's Developer called Skyrim "generic," yet, if you were to do a blind test of screenshots (that didn't have the telltale skyrim characters in them) you could barely tell the difference.  (I know that blind is kind of ironic considering I am asking you too look at something..lulz).  I wish I could set up a thread called Is it Skyrim or Witcher 3 and allow people to chose (on their honor that they didn't go looking) which game the screenshot belongs to and people would have a hard time figuring it out.
Skyrim, for me, was one of the best elder scrolls games.  maybe Witcher 3 will be an amazing game but it isn't even out yet and the dev is calling skyrim generic, but his game looks exactly the same.

Are you saying there will be no fetch quests?  No grinding for xp?  No boss battles?  No "saving the world/ nation/ fair maiden?"  No cliches?  Every screenshot for Witcher 3 contains at least 3 High Fantasy Cliches.  Not saying it is a problem.  I am hoping it is a good game and a success, I just don't see how being cliche is generic (skyrim) but being cliche is not generic (witcher 3.)

Read what the developer said. Not the headline.

Well I guess that decides it. If Kon likes Skyrim, we all know what that means about Witcher 2. ;)

Why does every game that Kon loves always a dumbed down sequel. You're predictable Kon, not a good look.
