PS4 and HDCP.
-

I was wondering, does anyone know if the PS4 will have HDCP on the WHOLE console, or just blu-ray? I can't capture gameplay with my capture card via HDMI since HDCP protection is on all the time, but on the 360 it's there just when you play movies so you can capture gameplay via HDMI. I'm probably going to be recording a lot of gameplay, and I know there will be a share feature but I would rather capture them via my capture card since I like to edit. Uploading them via the share button then ripping them off of the site(Youtube, Facebook etc.) may seem like a good idea but that results in quality loss.

Why would you need to? there is a button directly on the controller for recording gameplay

You know the share feature just produces a video with which you can do what you want, right?

Cooguy1212 To both people who have posted, learn to read :P. I did read, but you're not fully understanding the share feature of the PS4. You can save the video to your PS4 hard drive without it ever being uploaded, and the share button works through what is essentially a built in capture card. The whole point of the feature is that you no longer need an external capture card. Aside from that, there's no way of knowing if Ps4 will use HDCP protection during gameplay. That kind of thing generally doesn't get announced or discussed at all until after launch.

ZombieNinjaPanda hasn't it been confirmed that the share button only records X minutes? I don't think that has been confirmed, but many of the rumors before the conference stated it times out at 15 minutes

I don't think that has been confirmed, but many of the rumors before the conference stated it times out at 15 minutes Well that's the reason why this person wants to know if it has HDCP or whatever. A share button (lol) that only records 15 minutes is worthless except to maybe show your friends that super 1337 noscope you did.

No, you just missed a minute of gameplay that you were recording because you had to file save and open up a new video. Plus we don't know if this records audio outside of game, so it won't be appealing to people who want to make long let's plays or walkthroughs.

You're right in terms of walkthroughs, it would be very inconvenient to use the share button for that. But you don't generally edit a walkthrough or a let's play since it'd take too much time. However, PS4 will also allow people to do live streaming of their gaming session, which means you can probably convert the entire stream into a video file on UStream (?) afterwards with audio from your headset. On the other hand, the OP states he wishes to use a capture device for video that he wishes to edit - in that case, the share button is more than enough for his intended use, as you'd only save the bits that you want to use. In fact, it would probably make the whole process easier than using a capture device.

Id imagine you can do live stream if you wanted to do a walkthrough. A lot of this we wont know until console is out, so anything else woyld be speculation. But im sure its just easier to hate on everything.

You Sony demographic really cannot take any ounce of negative remarks towards this company and its products.
