"Since being enrolled at Eagle Elementary School in Fountain, Colo., the 6-year-old has presented as female and wearing girls' clothing. Her classmates and teachers have used female pronouns to refer to her, and she has used the girls' bathrooms.
But since December, school officials have told her parents she can no longer use the female facilities and ordered her to use the boys' or nurse's bathroom.
'We want Coy to have the same educational opportunities as every other Colorado student,' said Kathryn Mathis, Coy's mother. 'Her school should not be singling her out for mistreatment just because she is transgender.'"


I'm trying to understand this. I think having a sex change is a whole 'nother thing, but I think the concept of being a transgender is ridiculous. How can I just CHOOSE what my physical identity is and ignore the truth? What's next? Can I simply choose, for example, to be a female to exempt the draft? Assuming I'm white, can my parents and I just CHOOSE to be a minority to qualify for a scholarship? What limits do you feel should be set on these types of things? Why should we, or shouldn't we, just LET people choose what they want to be? Is it even fair? Are the school's actions justified?

Transgender is a delusion and a mental illness and it should be treated as one...


The young females of the school should not be subjected in having to share a washroom with this boy... Everyone looks at the rights of the little boy but what of all the girls that don;t want a boy in their washroom...

Yea... idk. You can choose your gender because that's all just superficial but you can't choose your sex. If you feel more comfortable pretending to be a woman and having the same gender mannerisms go for it. But when you want to be completely treated as the opposite sex is another matter when it comes to stuff like this.


And those school scholarships really piss me off... there are so many for just exclusively for females. Just because I'm a male doesn't mean I'm not as equally as broke...  

Everyone is free to be whoever they want to, judging someone on any basis other than personality is immature and ridiculous, in this case however, the child is too young to understand, or make a clear judgment about his/her life, it should be the parent's responsibility to deal with this, home schooling is an option, if he grows up to an age, where he can clearly make his own decisions and chooses to be a transgender, then that's his choice, and no one's business, until then, his parents need to find a middle ground, and help him as they see fit.

This has been my reasoning for any argument that genes affect your personality or identity. Identical sibling would essentially be the same person, but they're not.

This child is from a set of triplets, two of which are just normal boys. It happens that this one happens to identify more with the opposite sex. How can the parents be blamed for nurturing him this way, when the other two completely identify with the male gender?

Is it not evidence that biological and psychological factors are also at work here? There's a blurry line between nature and nurture. 

this is in CO everything is ****ed up there...but idk about mental illness...but they are just covering their asses just in case a girl "real female" parent comes along and sues them for a "boy" girls bathroom... this is early in this childs life and the what bathroom "she" is able to use is at least of worries to come

I know right, that shocked me too. Variations in gender identity should not be considered a 'delusion' or 'mental illness.' To do so is ignorant. A transgender person is someone with a gender identity that is opposition to the body they were born into - a brain-body mismatch. Like homosexuality, It is not a choice that people make, nor is it a disease that can be 'cured.'

My school built a set of unisex toilets in order to cater to some transgender students and avoid complaints. This was a wise decision.

If he has a penis, regardless of his femininity, he should use the male restroom.  
In h, honesty when  his body develops through puberty, even though he may not be attracted to females, how will it be appropriate for him to enter the ladies's room as a teenager or young adult. What about an erection, its embarrassing enough for young boy, I can't imagine how girls might react to it.

I agree as well, definitely not a mental illness even Psychiatrists dropped gender identity disorder from new diagnosis manuals.

Just put some testosterone pills in her his cereal, she'll be fine.

edit-  Hell, kids aren't "able" to consent to having sex until 18, but at 6 they can decide what gender they are?  WTF.  This is just a case of lazy ass parenting, letting the kid do what the f*ck they want.

It may be simplistic thinking, but if the kid's got a dick, he doesn't belong in the girls' room. I don't really like how they've tied themselves to the gay rights movement. Gay and transgendered are really apples and oranges.

Ok I wouldn't call it a mental illness since we put up the mental perception of what a gender male and female should be but biologically you are what you are... 

And even though this might be a touchy point even though I have absolutely no issue with people being gay, strictly speaking for a evolutionary stand point it seems like a mutation that would reduce fitness of a species thus being an unfavourable trait that wouldn't get passed along. But who knows it might be a favourable trait from the pressures of out current way of life. Being gay might help reduce the population lol, there are too many people on this planet already since we've already exceeded the current carrying capacity. I'm not gonna knock someone for genuinely liking the same sex as I would naturally like korean females, it's not something you can control. 

But there's always the slippery slope when it comes to how you feel...
