I read somewhere it's $750 for an eight gig upgrade. Edit: Nevermind, apparently what I read was nothing.

Pointless at that price. Anyone willing to spend that much on gaming hardware probably already has a rig, and can just plug their PC into their TV via HDMI.

The actual Steam Box coming from Valve doesn't have the specs finalised yet right? If it ends up more powerful and cheaper it could be worthwhile. I'm at an interesting crossroad - my laptop is now over 5 years old and in need of upgrading, while my PS3 is dead, so I'm trying to establish the best way forward to cover both my computing and gaming needs. There's a lot to consider; PC, PS4, Steam Box, Wii U, MacBook, tablet etc

Who is the target audience for this thing? PC gamers already have their rigs and console gamers sure as hell won't be paying a price that high.

This is actually such a horrendous price point that I shook my head as I saw the "trailer" for it. Get yourself a nice, easily expandable, customizable rig for $1000. This is targeted at nobody

Whoever thought 1000 dollars for steambox piston was a good idea is an idiot. You can build a computer for that price that would probably outperform it games wise AND also do everything else a normal computer would do.

@letros Please excuse any confusion. The Piston is part of the steam box initiative as of CES 2013, but after the articles went up apparently Valve confirmed that this isn't the official "steam box" in the form or at least price they intend to market it.
