Should I upgrade my pc? - Thursday, June 20, 2013 8:19 AM ( #1 )
Right now I have been gaming with an AMD 965 @ 3.4 Ghz and I have noticed that games like batman and Assassin's creed 3 give bad performances my GPU is a gtx 560 ti and my resolution is 1360x768. MSI after burner tells me that I'm not using up the video ram nor all my gpu power. So I'm wondering would it be time to upgrade.

The Gpu I want to get is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103960 Would that be a good upgrade considering next gen using 8 cores?

That is a CPU and not a GPU. It is a good upgrade however.

You're CPU limited, no GPU upgrade will improve your framerates. If that CPU will work in your motherboard, it will help a lot.

Thanks so do you think with those specs how much would the frames per second improve those games by how much. By the way would GTA 4 and Far Cry 3 would get any benefit out of this upgrade.

Oh and a question about Batman Arkham city when I go to a different place and it lags to about 10 frames when i go to a new room would the cpu upgrade stop it from going so low?

Remember, having more cores doesn't automatically equate to OMG SO SO BETTER.

I know that lol. I just want to know if it will preform better because like I said batman and assassins creed 3 have moments where they seem to start lagging like crazy and my gpu is not being pushed that much.

I'd go with what Letros is saying and upgrade your CPU then, though we'd need more info about your setup. Plus there are forum members much better than I am at telling people about these parts.

So what's the difference between AM3 and AM3+? Are they compatible?

Physically the sockets are the same, however some am3 mobos can have a bios update that will allow them to support am3+ cpus. If you could post your motherboard's model Then one of us could help you look it up. or you could just google.

also your manufacturers site would have that info as well.

To the bold part - no, 8-cores wouldn't be the reason to upgrade.

But in general, yes, because that CPU is much better than what you have. It's just that the reason for it being a good upgrade isn't that it has 8 cores.

If your mobo allows it, get that CPU, and sometime down the line replace your GPU.

Yep, a better CPU will help remove that bottleneck. I have the same graphic card as you and am stuck with a core2Duo E8400 processor; recently purchased a 24-inch monitor so am now struggling to run games at the recommended 1920x1080 resolution. Guess it's time for me to look at an upgrade as well :-)

yup it look like a good choice for upgrading if you want to improve graphics and performance.
