What are you guys doing for the 4th?  I think I'm going to the pool aaaaand that's about it.  Might watch a few fireworks if I can see any from my deck.

Technically it was two days ago, but whatever. News by horseback didn't reach everyone until two days later. 



What's this about?


America declared it's independence on July 2nd 1776, as anticipated by John Adams as the day news would reach and the United Colonies would celebrate, but as news traveled it wasn't "adopted" by Congress until the fourth. So despite the technicality we celebrate it on the fourth of July. Funny enough it wasn't officially celebrated as a national holiday until July 8th, and London didn't get wind of the declaration until August 30th. 

The whole thing was pretty much handled with hasty excitement.

Their culture and languages might go extinct, but the race definitely won't.
