I'm reserving a level of cautious optimism towards Star Citizen. It's one of those games that's so ambitious that it'll either be an amazing, industry-changing experience, or fail to deliver in any meaningful way.

I'll be creating a thread shortly as to why I'm skeptical about this game...

I will play it for sure if it turns out to be good. They won't get a dime from me until I see the finished project.

The  fact they've locked a number of ships behind some astronomical paywalls on the Kickstarter is a pretty big deterrent. It costs over $400 for all the ships. It looks interesting but I'll be watching it with caution.

Everything you see can be obtained in game. These packages are purely for pledging to help the game. For me, Im getting the Rear Admiral package with the Connie. Ive already got a couple dozen friends who have pledged towards the game so we will have a rather powerful armada (21 ships so far) for the alpha/beta tests

This is one of the games that I backed without evening watching the entire video. This really looks like one of those dream games that could absolutely be game changing. Then when you think about the possibility for playing this on the Oculus Rift it goes to a whole new level. I don't usually get this hyped for new games, so we'll see if it can deliver.

I have an Oculus Rift as well, I do hope it supports it because it'll be awesome

Considering the creator has endorsed Oculus Rift, it's a definite yes.

Are you developing on it? Because it is not available for consumer use.

over ear is the BEST. Buds are tinny while over ear are 100+ years of technological advancement behind them

Ah ok did not know this. All I know is right now there are only dev kits for sale so I was commenting based on that.

Assuming Star Citizen launches around 2015, I'll get myself a DDR4 rig around that time and hopefully the Rift will be consumer available by then.

The system I have now will not cut it. What do I need to run this baby with great results (not a wish list, those are easy.)?

I don't think anybody knows but I would guess you would need a very high end rig today as he is targeting mid range rigs of the future.
