I don't mind CGI but I think that graphics are good enough nowadays that ingame cutscenes are good enough, or more than. I think it might also be because there's a very noticeable difference between ingame and CGI and it can be somewhat off-putting.

My very personal opinion... I love CGI in movies and I liked CGI cut-scenes in previous gens, but now I just need to see cut-scenes which doesn't look much different than the actual in-game graphics... I love when devs take the time and effort to create great cut-scenes with great characters, great animations and great dialogues all made with the in-game engine even if it's touched up a bit. It makes the experience feel more real IMO. Games like Heavenly Sword, MGS4 and Uncharted 1 & 2 this gen have provided some of the best cut-scenes I've seen in games and they weren't CGI... Even Killzone 2 cut-scenes looked awesome. I just love in-game cut-scenes.... CGI takes me out of the experience a bit and I'm a single player/visuals whore so I need immersion. My 2 cents ;)

I like games with no cut scenes like Half-Life. All of the story is presented without taking you away from your player.

Pandamobile I like games with no cut scenes like Half-Life. All of the story is presented without taking you away from your player. Yeah, I'd wish they would remake the first half life. For all this hype over games becoming more cinematic nowadays, Half Life 1 was pretty damn cinematic for its time. Like when you are crawling through the vents and the soldiers start shooting at you - you can see all of the bullet holes coming closer to you as the light shines through them. It was little things like that, they really put HL over the top. As far as CG in movies, its pretty awful most of the time. I like it when its blended w/ real objects, so your eyes can't tell where reality stops and the cgi starts, but most of the time it just comes off as cheap.

Theres nothing wrong with CGI. CGI/FMV's in the past were used to explain\illustrate dramatic points on a scale that the game engine couldn't do. But now at days some consoles have the ability to capture realtime cutscenes with the engines that look great, so theres no need to do it anymore, since the gameplay looks just as amazing as the cut scenes. Its icing on the cake of a good game engines now at days. We are at the point in technology to where some game engines can pull off cgi-close cut scenes, they will soon be a thing of the past as technology as well as animation techniques advance. The goal has always been to match the subtitle sequence with still images, to fmv's, to in-game quality.
