Because no one want their music to be associated with this:

There's nothing to discuss. Emo and nu-metal isn't really metal at all...

To me those are more pop wannabe "metal".

Real metal belongs with real music, like rock and heavy rock....

I like how all these metal fans bitch about emo music (whatever the **** that means) using generic chord progressions.  Like how many of these people know what the **** a chord progressions is?  Good for you guys.  You can read the Rolling Stone.

To me it's more like most emo bands feel like they are manufactured, just like many pop bands.

They are just in it for the money and the emo genre is an easy way to make some quick bucks from slightly alternative teen angst. Backing that up is the fact that very few emo bands last, neither in popularity or as a band...

I don't get the whole fascination with genres in the first place. Whatever happened to liking and disliking, y'know, bands?

Well genre is just a way of saying "You like x band? well you might like y band."

Sure, but the bands themselves are more important than the genre they're in. Just 'cause they're in the same genre doesn't mean you'll like both and just because they're not in the same genre doesn't mean you won't like both.

Genres are always little more than guidelines, certainly not worth all this effort.

Well I'm not big on either genre but safe to say, I'd rather be stuck in a room with metal heads, than a room with emo's

Yup, but many of the bands are stylistically similar and whilst you won't definitely like or dislike them because they're the same genre, it's more likely. Of course many genres are also unclear or overlap a lot.

Deja vu? This sounds familiar for some reason.  Didn't we have another thread like this about a month or so ago?
Yet I still don't understand how people can mistake emo for metal.
But whatever I guess...

No that thread wanted to discuss what's the difference, this thread wants to discuss why metal fans get offended when people assume metal is emo and vice versa.

Okay, for all the uneducated, emo isn't cut yourself and cry.

Emo is a more emotional punk, punk with more feelings, rather than "REBEL REBEL REBEL!"

Metal however, can deal with many things, more often that not, is not emotional.
However, we are going into many subgenres (too ****ing many) where metal has completely changed.

Oh alright then.
Yes, good question. Why would metal fans get pissed when people mistake metal for a genre that thrives on suicidal content?

idk most emo music that I have had the displeasure or hearing involves some sort of a personal infliction of pain be it physical or emotional there all just crying about something. Granted the only time I really hear emo music is when I'm with my one friend who likes to listen to it and he's a character himself.

Where the hell is the punk aspect in emo music?  If whiny bitches was a genre, I'd then agree that Emo is emotional whiny bitches.
