Ads in WipEout HD, what's your take?
-
Saturday, November 07, 2009 11:51 AM
I've written kinda of an article about how adverts have made it into WipEout HD, and how these ads have degraded the experience for many of its core gamers, over NeoGAF; WipEout, quo vadis?. I encourage everyone to read it fully and tell me what you think of it. From my gaf post you can read that this kind of advertisement will soon carry over to other games. Are ads now going to trash your favorite game?

I believe Sony should now offer everyone who bought the game money off or a full refund. They changed the terms, I didn't pay for ads, they were slipped in under the guise of a patch. It's disgusting and I have emailed Sony requesting a part or full refund or to remove the ads since I paid full price. If the game is going to feature ads, there should be a discount or an option of paying slightly more for no ads.

Damn, normally I wouldn't mind I guess, but just like Piratethom said it, they changed their terms without any notice. Ho wait they changed it with a notice, yeah right when you launch the game with the new contract, "hey you can't complain, you were shown the new terms before playing with ads". Partially refund us or remove the ads sony liverpool (or your regional SCE)
To this day hath this evergoing war spread flames, to reach a point we worship sales. our input medium shall not enjoy games, but compare the same weapon on both soldiers, see who fails.

Ads will soon be everywhere... they are on N4G, on the TV, whilst you're watching videos online... we are bombarded with adverts all the time and I've come to grow accustomed to it. It's absolutely wrong that they have added adverts post-release, but in principle I don't generally object to ads, though I think they are best suited to free-to-play games. As for Wipeout, well it was shocking when I first found out about ads being put into the game... shouldn't be allowed to add adverts in after a game's release.

I don't know why someone wouldn't buy or enjoy a game just because it has adverts in it so why are some of you asking for a refund?

joe382 I don't know why someone wouldn't buy or enjoy a game just because it has adverts in it so why are some of you asking for a refund? Well, some people just want to have an ad free game especially when the ads were added after the game was released without notice. I remember how youtube was better without the ads and now you have to wait all the time for the ads to finish. Cotton is the Fabrics of our lives! I hate this ad so much. >.> Oh, and the ads also caused longer load times for Wipeout.

Is it only the US version of the game that has ads? - The ads only appear whilst the game is loading - They have fixed the issue whereby it made tracks load slower - Ads are targeted at a specific region, meaning that if nobody's bought the ad space in your region, you won't see those ads - They won't show up all the time because presumably advertisers only pay for a certain number of ads

Check out my sig for a glimpse into the future! /sarcasm I don't care if games have ads as long as it doesn't mess with the gameplay then I am cool with it.

I also thought I was really good because I won most races that I played... until I went up against the top-ranked players and got b1tched lol... (I didn't do too badly in some races though).

Ads in games such as wipeout and burnout are fine, seeing as they are done in a realistic fashion. However, if the ads were directly in your face ads, then yes, I would not be pleased with this, however, since they are random billboards. Nah doesn't effect me. Shouldn't effect you guys either, but then again, gamers are a whiney bunch.

lol@sig, Max Power. xD Nice one. thor ... I just realised who you are :) You're one of the few (maybe only one?) people to get over zone 140... wow good job - legend :) I have only ever got to zone 92... I also thought I was really good because I won most races that I played... until I went up against the top-ranked players and got b1tched lol... (I didn't do too badly in some races though). Thx, thor. To give you an exact number, the highest zone reached is zone 151 on Syncopia. :) But man, don't try this at home! xD Well, 92 zones is already a good result. How about zone 100? C'mon! Hellangelzx Ads in games such as wipeout and burnout are fine, seeing as they are done in a realistic fashion. Yeah that would be ok, like the Puma and Coca Cola ads in Pure and Red Bull in Wipeout 2097. Hellangelzx However, if the ads were directly in your face ads, then yes, I would not be pleased with this ... But that's what their are; in-your-face. They are loud, annoying, off-topic, repeat over and over again, make loading times longer, and produce lots of issues while matching up with other players online. I never asked for such a feature!
