and seeing some videos, I was dumbfounded as to what I was expecting, originally I pre-order for the demo but I have that already so seeing Collection sort of brought everything back into perspective, I cant tell the difference actually all i see is that the original is darker, I will probably buy it later on, I expect for it to be on sale when GOW3 arrives but for now I should waste my money buying a game I never played

And the demo gave me my GOW fix for now

Well, if the PS3 could play PS2 games en masse, almost nobody would buy the Collection (it's only upscaled and, as far as I can tell, there's no additional content other than the GoW3 demo - so there's not all that much going for it unless you're either new to the series or THAT obsessed over it).

I recently played the original GOW and looking at the video, there are some new effects but not that much of a difference, ill skip it for now

Well, I think they've done a GREAT njob with the collection from all I've seen. They've done a bit more than upscaled it as the resolution is better, lightings better, textures are betterand effects are better-while the framerates are also rock solid!
 
Then, they added the trophies which is a cooll thing AND lots of folk never actually played the series and this is an amazingly cool way to catch up on one of the greatest PS series there is. I live in the EU so I can't get this, sadly, but I'm vey jealous f you guys and as a real GOW fanboy would LOVE to replay with better looks and trophy support!
 
TheGOW3 demo though-is it just the E3 buld as it's move on a LOT since then judging by the amazing TGS footge by comparison.

D/L the vid on PSN and see for yourself.  Definitely upgraded, but how much do you expect?  It's not as though it's going to look like current gen.  Trophies are cool as well.  This is a must buy for me still.

It's comments like this that reinforce my belief that HD resolutions are one big case of "The Emperor's New Clothes". Everyone loves to have a bigger number attached to their game, but most don't know what it means and wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it didn't have an HD resolution.

I disagree.  The source textures were all drawn in sub-HD resolutions.  Now, without replacing those textures entirely, they can jack up the resolution as high as they want without seeing that big of an improvement.  Remember Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection?  Technically those games were all rendered in 1080p.  Doesn't matter much when when most on-screen characters are 12 pixels high.  Same principle here.

Yeah, this game has some smoother edges and nice lighting effects,  but where you really see the difference with most current gen games as opposed to last gen games is in the insanely high res. textures.

THIS is the difference between SD and HD. Not textures, which can be bad or good whether you have SD or HD. If anything, when you are rendering at a higher resolution, the extra resourced required might mean you have to lower the texture detail in some places.

So yeah, I agree that some of the main reasons HD games look so good is because of their nice textures, models and effects, but these would be the same even if it were SD. The actual difference between SD and HD is exemplified here.

Exactly, the GOW collection is meant for people like me who have never played the games before and do not have a B/C ps3. So I got my preorder ready and waiting for me to pick up. I wouldn't buy this if I already have or played the games on ps2.

Well duh! It's a re-release with a couple of extra features! Like blu-ray re-releases... or XBLM re-releases of classic arcade games. But if you were a really big fan, you would buy a blu-ray of the same movie because it's now in HD... just like you would buy GoW1 and 2 again because they're now in HD. And if you don't care about whether something's upscaled or native, then MY point still stands about not being able to stand up for blu-ray or HD. (On my 1080p TV, any PS2 game or DVD would HAVE to be upscaled to that resolution, by whatever means).

I remember tekken 5 having the PS1 ones (1 to 3) in the same disc. Why GOW cant? I still have the PS2 GOW games, i love the series but i'm not buying it for more than 20 euros
