My Bayonetta Import Impression
-
Monday, November 09, 2009 10:12 AM
I bought the game today. I didn't care at all about this game until i started seeing the articles last week about the ps3 version being awful. It seemed kinda unfair to me since it seemed like they were going off a demo. So when i saw a copy of the japanese version at this comic book store where i buy my games i picked it up and proceeded to go home and play it. The game so far is absolutely fantastic. The blurriness everyone is talking about, i think is from the opening scene when you're fighting on top of a clock tower that's falling off a cliff. It is kinda blurry, but i think it's meant to be that way. You're falling through the air and you don't even have a life bar yet. The only other time i've noticed the game have blur is in certain cutscenes when there is a bit of slow motion, but again, it seems normal for the game to have it in these specific spots. The graphics themselves aren't anything incredible, but there is so much stuff going on screen that it makes up for it. Also, after putting 4 hours into it today i haven't noticed any frame rate problems. Another complaint i read on a few blogs was that the cutscenes on the ps3 version seemed to have a sepia tone to them. Yes they do, in the flashback cutscenes, which to me, makes perfect sense. How did no one else pick up on this? The colors themselves in gameplay don't seem washed out or anything. I don't really know how bright and vibrant people expect it to be but it looks fine on my tv. (i play on a 42" plasma w/hdmi) The soundtrack is absolutely fantastic. It has a bit of a jazz film-noir style to it. During battle though it get's more upbeat. Not like DMC4 upbeat, where it sounded like a middle school NIN coverband. This is actually good music and a few tracks i wouldn't mind having on my ipod. The story, while i won't give out any spoilers, is really interesting. At first i had no idea what was going on in the game, but the game paces itself really well with giving out info as to what is going on. It's got me hooked so far. Also, the voice acting is spot on and the game can be pretty funny at times too. The controls in the game are pretty solid, the only problem i have gameplay wise is that the camera can be a bit finicky at times, but it's nothing horrible. Just annoying at times because the game is really fast paced. The one thing I did notice and find to be the biggest annoyance, is that the game loads everytime you pause the game or go into the inventory. It's not a game breaker by any means but it's just annoying. Maybe there's an optional install to fix this? I haven't looked. So i'm not sure exactly. So all in all, i'd definitely give this game a look if you enjoy playing the god of war games or the devil may cry series. It doesn't exactly break any new ground but it's put together really well and the style of it is a real treat for the eyes. Does this game run like garbage compared to the 360 version? To me it doesn't, but i haven't played the 360 version. All i know is that i haven't had any problems with it so far and the game hasn't shown any signs of being glitchy or buggy. Like i said, i had no interest in the game prior to blogs bashing the ps3 version. I'm not a sony fanboy but everytime i hear something like this, i always get interested. Especially when the developers are platinum. It's not like these guys are amateurs. So if you get the chance, play the game, or at least don't be put off by what certain bloggers are claiming after playing a demo.

Yeah it's a solid game, I beat it already and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised in the later levels, the game gets really serious and epic toward the end. The boss music in the game is sick too, and yeah...ignore the hype over the porting of the game. It's a good game on both systems and you can eliminate alot of time by pushing R2 + Select at the same time to skip cutscenes without having to enter the pause menu. hatchimatchi I bought the game today. I'm starting to look forward to this game more and more! I just hope I can save up enough money to pay for every game I want when they come out. =\
