Hacky Slash

There have been a couple of high profile hack and slash games that have made names for themselves over the years. But who's the best.

Devil May Cry are the ones I've enjoyed, none others come to mind as good ones I really don't see hack n slashers as good games.

X-blades was fun, despite the reviews, if it's cheap get it, but i wouldn't pay any more than $25 U.S for it.

I really haven't played that many Hack-and-Slash games, but God of War is my favorite. God of War may not have the best and/or complex combat system, but I think it's pretty easy for a lot of people to pick up and play, and a lot of Hack-and-Slash games really aren't like that. What I think separates God of War from most other Hack-and-Slash games is that it has the perfect combination of an Amazing Story, Great Voice Acting, Great Soundtrack, and Plenty of Action that's balanced really well with Puzzles.... there's very few Hack-and-Slash games that I can think off the top of my head that would fit all of those categories.

The whole god mythology theme is done in a pretty unique way.

Even though it was very repetitive I enjoyed DMC4. Not the best by any means but still alot of fun to just pwn demons with neros devil arm or w/e they called it.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma, the best hack & slash I have played to date and I don't even think that there will be another game on the same genre that could surpass it ever. Sigma 2 was a disappointment because they changed the concept and made it another button masher just like the Devil May Cry series, God of Wars, etc... But if you're just looking for instant gratification then the God of War series is a good option with its QTE, easy combos and very graphic violence. The same with Devil May Cry, pretty good option for the anime lovers and easy combos with style. But the truth have to be told, those 2 series are not in the same league as Ninja Gaiden. That's why Itagaki was so cocky, he knew that he created the ultimate hack & slash game. Too bad that he ruined everything with the sequel trying to make it more accessible. Those GOW and DMC fans would find Sigma 2 pretty fun though, much more than the first.

My favorite right now is Ninja Gaiden (1, f*** 2) but I have feeling it will be Bayonetta soon.

Sacred 2. Demons Souls is hacky slash in a way... since you kill with "hacks and slashes" but that games is Skilled "Hack & Slash that punishes stupid. But Dynasty Warriors is the king.

Devil May Cry 3 is hands down, the best of the best.
