PC peripheral thread - Sunday, March 06, 2011 1:20 PM ( #1 )
Figure this would be a good thread to start, if you get a new toy, or see something coming out soon that is of interest feel free to share.

I've just picked up the Mionix Naos 5000 mouse, and damn, its a thing of beauty, it uses the same sensor (Avago ADNS-9500) as some of the top gaming mice, G9x and Roccat Kone. The tracking is very smooth in combination with its bottom teflon pads, I was using a MS x8 before and it just demolishes it for smoothness, and the x8 is not a bad mouse at all.

It feels amazing, it uses a rubber surface(not cheap plastic like Razer), and fits my hand perfectly for both a palm and claw grip, though I have fairly large hands.

Software is very in-depth, , one thing that stands out is selectable lift-off distance, from 1-2 mm to around 10 mm. my only complaint is that you cannot set program specific profiles, you have to manually change them or rebind the DPI buttons, I will email them with this suggestion.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied, but like many peripherals, its a lot about personal opinion.

Here is a review

They also make a cheaper 3200, pictured below, but it is the same design, just a different sensor and few less features.

THIS!

Logitech Darkfield mouse.  They have a newer model than this now, probably more for gaming... but this is the one I have.  It is BEAST.  Perfect for laptops.  It is wireless and the laser can work on any material.  Even clear glass.  Highly recommend this baby if you have $80.  Very durable too.

look to pick up either:

Steel series 6Gv2:

or

Razer Blackwidow:

Leaning towards the Razer because of macrokeys but the from the reviews the steelseries keyboard is built better.

any1 have either?

*edit*
now im annoyed lol, I like the key layout and macros of the razor but the matte finish and construction of steelseries...

thanks toaster for the build info just made my choice harder lol

@ flip-it

I got to test a G6V2 the other day. Good keyboard and the build quality is amazing, I think if I ran it over with a truck it would still survive.

Anyways here's my stuff... ultra high-res. I'll be getting G930 headsets in a couple weeks since my friend is getting them in the US. Logitech gaming stuff is nonexistent here in Asia.. it's all Steelseries and Razer.

MX518? Do tell how you got that "skin", the one thing I don't like about the 518 is the glossy plastic they put on it, but yours looks really nice!

edit- I see now its a G5, still, that looks really cool.

@flip-it, I have the Blackwidow, its built really well too, I don't really use the macros much, only in Magicka thus far...kinda useless for most games, but I guess nice to have sometimes.

Yeah it's the default skin for the G5 V2. The texture is really nice and it doesn't feel like the mouse will slip out of my hand on accident. The only thing is that it's worn where my index finger is from clicking.. lol. The black stuff is all off and it's only the blue underneath.

Ultra crap photo taken from my webcam, but you can tell where the grip stuff is worn down from clicking.

I want to upgrade to a G9x soon. And then HOPEFULLY *fingers crossed* Logitech will update the keyboards with mechanical. G19 mechanical version would be soooo awesome.

What is the difference between the G9 and the G9x? I've had my G9 for 3 years now, still a damn good mouse. G9x looked pretty much the same from the pictures.

Same layout and design, but the G9 has 3200 DPI while the G9x has 5000 DPI. Other than that.... nothing else is changed. Still the same interchangeable grips and weights, etc.. Strange though, the G9x is cheaper than the G9.

Wow, gives me an idea for a new mouse, my cord is getting killed.  Might pick up the Mionix, also you can change the color of the Mionix.  ALOT of customization features, but there does seem to be some software issues with the Mionix 5000 though.

My current mouse is the G500.

I haven't run into any issue of the software beside what I mentioned(one thing that is nice is that all settings are stored internally, so you don't even need the software after the first setup), I'm going to e-mail them and see about getting them to add program specific profiles, doesn't seem like it would be difficult...Intellipoint and Logitech software has them.

I can't believe there's a thread for this sort of thing...

What kind of sick twisted person is constantly replacing his keyboard / mouse that they actually have to care about these kinds of things?
Push it to pop it!
Rock it to lock it!
Break it to make it!

When you use it alot?  My G500 cord is getting shredded from my desk, with that in mind is there a way to prevent edges from shredding your cord?
