Wii U Discussion - Tuesday, June 07, 2011 2:33 PM ( #1 )
Ok, there is a little bit of confusion about Nintendo's next gen console now officialy known as Wii U. So I want to make some things straight of what we do know about the console

Official Name (with logo):

Yes... it is in fact a console, not a controller:

Look at it... It's a more "rounded" original Wii. That's all we know...

Controller:

I will call this controller the Wii U Tablet because it kind of acts like one. Now, I wasn't far off when I said that "stream" was the keyword for the next Nintendo console as you can read here: http://forums.n4g.com/m938139-print.aspx

Basically I said this:

"Since the new Nintendo controller will likely have a screen, well, the possibility of playing different games is more plausible. Not only for games though, you could surf the web, listen to music, watch movies, download stuff etc... "

The Wii U Tablet will likely do that and more of course... obviously Nintendo didn't release more details...

Teh Grafix!!!!:

Nintendo didn't release any specs at all and the third party games that were shown didn't specify that they were running on Wii U. But, they did show a couple of tech demos:

Now, this is supposed to be real time graphics. Many will say they aren't but if they were real... holy crap they are beautiful

Like the Gamecube before it, Wii U also showed a Zelda Demo:

This is not a real game... It appears to be Twilight Princess running on Wii U... awesome.

That's basically what we know about Wii U, many unanswered questions... but let's take some time to think the possibilities of this new console

What do you think?

It needs the specs to at least match the 360 orthis is just a gimmik wraped Wii.

I don't think is a "gimmik wraped Wii"... not at all. In terms of specs it will clearly surpass the 360, didn't you watch the video or screenshot of Zelda?

It's something else alright...  I think getting use to the size of the controller will be toughest to get past.  It should shape up the user interface for a bunch of games maybe, as far as inventory and maps yet Nintendo showed more augmented stuff for it.  Video face chat is neat just hope they have the network to do it with!

Playing the game as a handheld while watching other stuff and making some things tv free is pretty cool.  The next couple of days will stream out more info on that maybe.  I liked the Zelda HD stuff but the tech demo wasn't anything special.  Nice and all but yeah.  I'd like to know if Rage and other 3rd party games will get on there

yeah, I did. I'm just a little weary of it given there isn't an abundance of info given out on it yet. Once I see Assasins Creed running on it and it look exactly like, or better, than the 360, I will remain skeptical.

I want to believe though.

I haven't seen the conference yet, but your little Zelda picture looks pretty slick if those really are the graphics.  Hopefully Nintendo doesn't show a lot of CGI or tech-demos for these games, although there still is a ways to go for development.

And no offense, but "Wii U" is a terrible name.

Well Nintendo is always silent when it comes to specs, rest assured, this console is more powerful than current gen consoles.

Well seeing that these games have another year to finish up they should look better.  I don't see the tech for Wii U being to far off of high end of now.  Don't know about the 4 years but it'll manage up to there at least

I'm sorry but that's not a proper controller for a home console. The camera is good and all but the design isn't.

Exactly, I expect a lot of hands hurting when people try to play that thing.

The controller is big and seems odd right now but like always I'm sure after you start using it the difficulty or change of it will turn into ease of use.

I like being able to use it as the tv screen though

Re:Wii U Discussion - Tuesday, June 07, 2011 3:14 PM ( #18 )
I watched the entire E3 Nintendo conference and was left confused at the end. At first the Wii U just appeared to be a peripheral for the Wii but as more info came out it was apparent that this was indeed a new console. I am still not sure why I should buy this instead of just playing those games on my 360.

If Nintendo wants my money they had better present a next-gen gaming experience that is above and beyond what the 360 and ps3 already offer. It has been approximately 6 years since the launch of the current gen systems and I am ready for a change.

How did they go from wanting old people to play the wii to this? What is their direction? I don't understand the industry at all right now.
