I'd pull for option 1 on your list.

For me, the Gulf War was far enough back where it can be used in a game. The GWOT (Global War on Terror) or IW (Iraq War) are ongoing, and too close to home.

Your other 2 are too far in the past! Give us modern!!!

I want to be in Nam.

The Civil War is such a distorted event that while a game would be interesting any further perpetuation of the mis-history would really bug me!  Plus, the gameplay could be totally frustrating - can't hit your target from very far, limited weapons, inaccurate, etc...actually, that would be hilarious.  

I vote for Option 1 as well, since I was living in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War.  Pretty scary times for a kid.

A Call of Duty Space game would be interesting. Or a Call of Duty re: Korean War (you know the forgotten one) would be nice.

Then again, people may not take so kindly to killing NK Troops or that last little bit about slaughtering PRC Troops. It would be educational however.

It'll suck if Treyarch is doing it, and I believe it's WWII anyway. Better get talking about COD6.

Why bother? It's not like Infinity Ward is making this edition. So I wouldn't bother getting my hopes up. For all we know, this game could very well suck.

Actually Call of Duty 2: Big Red One on the PS2/Xbox was great and it was made by Treyarch so I do think they can make a great game. I really want a next gen shooter set in Nam, come on devs do it for me.

If it was, the US government would have something to say about it if it even closely portrayed what the Americans did. It would end up another "tastelessly violent" game (i.e. Manhunt 2).

I wouldn't say it was great, just slightly above your average WWII shooter.

One thing TreyArch will always have over Infinity Ward is storyline. They are great at writing well thought out plots, when it comes to gameplay, it seems as if they made the game while an ostrich was sucking on their nuts, while Infinity really puts a lot of dedication towards the gameplay rather than the story revolving around it. COD4 had a bit of an improvement from COD2, which was probably the most fun yet most uncreative themed storyline ever, but I enjoyed COD3's unfolding plot a lot more. Overall, I really think they should just stop making these games seperately and conjoin to make the COD we've all been waiting for. COD4 was frickin' awesome and all, but it wasn't perfect. Together, these companies really can reach their full potential.

Remaining on topic, I would stick to the fictional yet enjoyable ultranationalist and terrorist vs. loyalist and american theme they had going there, but try to mix up the storyline a tad bit each time.

Treyarch the soul sucking developers that destroy everything they touch is making COD5 and it is in WWII...

Lets us all bow our heads for a moment of silence for all the hard work that infinity ward puts into the COD names and that treyarch so brutally murders....

Was a great game because of the atmosphere... What a fantastic game IW could produce with Nam
But since IW isnt making the next CoD but the one after I dont care as much where or when the next CoD is... At least not as much.
