im gonna install linux today or tommorow, just wondered how many other people have taken advantage of it...

If you will use and stuff yeah it is. Try it any way its not like you are not able to delete it.

I don't have it yet, but I just got my 250 gig HD so I'll be installing it soon. I can say this, however. I have an old PC with 256 megs of ram running Ubuntu and it runs flawlessly. Like a Vista PC with 2 gigs of ram. I'm assuming if my old PC runs Linux that well that the PS3 should handle it great.

What is the point? I play games on the PS3. If I want Linux I will use my PC.

Rice makes a good point. If you're not familiar with Linux it's *really* hard to get used to. I had to run it on my PC for around 6 months before I was at all competent with it. Sometimes I still feel a bit out of my league when I'm trying to get some new features up and running. It's something to keep in mind of you don't know a lot about computers.

i have it and i never use it, it is just waisting my hard drive space, i advise you not to do it because it has no use really, as long as you have your own computer you don't need it.

I got it running. Im not too experienced with Linux but so far YDL sucks. Its pretty bad and it crashes alot due to lack of memory. For playing emulators its fine though. Just dont have too many things running in the background.

Learning Linux was fun, but I'm in need of a new challenge. When I put that bigger HD in my PS3 I'm going with this:

Dude, you're right, it can sooo run Linux. I know a guy who swapped his Xbox HD for a 40 gig job. That was hard for a whole set of reasons I don't want to get into. Anyway his Xbox was pimped out. It actually had better media server capabilities than my PS3 does now.

i think he meant as soon as you unpack it you can install linux. the original xbox had to be modded to run linux

I have linux on my ps3 which garners a number of advantages such as;

a nice cheap alternative to nintendos virtual console

not to mention all it's PC functions

I wanted to use it so I could program in it but seeing how you have no access to the gpu whatsoever blows so really I still have yet to find a reason to use it. If I didn't actually own a PC then I would but for now, running Ubuntu on my PC works for me.
